BMW has announced that it will locally assemble the X4 and X7 SUV for India at its Chennai plant. The X4 has been around for some time while the X7 is a completely new venture for the German automaker.
This is BMW’s new flagship SUV and will be offered here in India in the M750d variant. This engine is 3.0-litre inline-6 producing 400bhp/560Nm. It’s expected to get xDrive and an 8-speed AT. It’s a seven-seat vehicle and is expected to bring in a host of new technologies, in terms of driver assistance and comfort features.
BMW is looking to claim the lower segments of the coupe SUV market and will start its efforts with the X4. It’s a rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC coupe, Audi Q4 and in certain markets, even the Jaguar F-Pace and Porsche Macan. It’s expected to be priced in the range of Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 60 lakhs. The vehicle is expected to come with both petrol and diesel engine options when it launches.
