When was the 2023 Kushaq launched?

The MY23 Kushaq was launched in India on 28 March.

    What variants does it get?

Customers can choose from variants including Active, Ambition, and Style. Also on offer are two special editions including Monte Carlo and Onyx Edition.

What features are available in the 2023 Kushaq?

Exterior highlights of the Skoda Kushaq include the signature butterfly grille with black vertical slats and chrome surround, LED headlamps with integrated L-shaped LED DRLs, fog lights, silver skid plates and roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, shark-fin antenna, rear washer and wiper, as well as an integrated spoiler.

Inside, the Skoda Kushaq receives features such as an electric sunroof, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink; a two-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, cruise control, and a cooled glove-box. The model is equipped with safety features that include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, multi-collision braking, roll-over protection, brake disc wiping, hill hold control, and TPMS.

The Skoda Kushaq is available in five colours that include Tornado Red, Honey Orange, Candy White, Carbon Steel, and Reflex Silver. The dual-tone options include Honey Orange with a black roof and Carbon Steel with a silver roof. The mid-size SUV has a seating capacity of five occupants.

What are the engine, performance, and specifications of the 2023 Kushaq?

Powertrain options on the new Skoda Kushaq will include a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque, as well as a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, TSI petrol engine producing 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. A six-speed manual unit is standard while the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre versions get a six-speed automatic unit and a seven-speed DSG automatic unit as an option, respectively. These engines, which have now been updated to comply with the BS6 Phase 2 and RDE emission norms, are claimed to return up to seven per cent more fuel efficiency.

Is the 2023 Kushaq a safe car?

The Kushaq has scored a five-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test.

What are the rivals to the 2023 Kushaq?

The Kushaq rivals the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, and Tata Harrier.

How is the Skoda Kushaq car?

    • Pros

      • BS6 2 update - RDE-compliant motors offer better efficiency, dual-tone for lower variants
      • Refined drivetrains - Pretty useable, requires light throttle inputs for fair progress
      • Mature ride - Despite the hint of firmness, the pliant/absorbent ride is impressive
      • Features/safety equipment - Sufficiently loaded with contemporary comfort and safety kit
      • Driving experience - Fun to drive SUV, Can easily be a comfortable daily runner too
    • Cons

      • Rear seat space - Best for four people due to improper rear middle backrest/seat base
      • Boot space - At 385 litres, the boot is smaller than what is offered by some rivals
      • Interior build quality -  The quality isn't up to the Skoda standards we've come to know

    Skoda Kushaq 2023 Verdict

What’s likeable about the Kushaq is that it’s a handsome crossover. A sensibly built European SUV that drives well while also being a comfortable daily runner. Yes, there's no diesel option, but the latest updates make its petrol engines considerably more fuel efficient.

    Skoda Kushaq Car Review

Skoda Kushaq Matte Edition First Look

    What is it?

    Front View

Skoda India has introduced yet another special version of the Kushaq. This one is called the Matte Edition and it fills the space between the Style and top-spec Monte Carlo trims. It is sold alongside other special editions of the Kushaq, namely Onyx, First Anniversary, and the aforementioned Monte Carlo. We have now seen the Matte Edition in person and here’s what we make of it.

How is it on the outside?

    Left Side View

As the name of this edition goes, the Kushaq is painted in a Carbon Steel hue with a matte finish. However, instead of blacked-out elements like on the Monte Carlo, Skoda has preferred a handful of chrome and gloss black elements that can be seen on the ORVMs, door handles, front grille, and on roof spoiler. A ‘1.5 TSI’ badge on the tailgate makes its debut with this edition of the SUV.

    Front Door Handle

Besides this, since the Kushaq is based on the Style trim, it comes equipped with LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs, LED taillamps, a gloss black shark fin antenna, silver-coloured roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

    Rear Spoiler

How is it on the inside?

The cabin of the Matte Edition follows a grey and black theme. Unlike the lower variants which get a brushed aluminium finish, the Kushaq Matte Edition gets gloss black inserts on the dashboard, door pads, and around the centre console. There are no exclusive 'Matte' motifs or contrasting colour inserts which could have helped this version of Kushaq have its own charm.

    Dashboard

The 10-inch touchscreen unit that was earlier limited only to the Monte Carlo trim has now made its way to the Matte Edition as well. It also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and is connected to Skoda’s six-speaker sound system with a sub-woofer.

    What’s on the feature list?

The Matte Edition carries forward all the features from the Style’s bucket such as a wireless charger, an electric sunroof, cruise control, a two-spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control, a cooled glovebox, and Type-C USB ports for front and rear passengers.

    Sunroof/Moonroof

On the safety front, it gets six airbags, a reverse parking camera, a tyre pressure monitor, and ISOFIX seat points. The Kushaq also scored full five stars in the recently conducted GNCAP crash test.

    What is it powered by?

    Engine Shot

Unlike other editions that are offered with limited powertrain options, the Matte Edition can be had in 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. The former produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque whereas the latter puts out 148bhp and 250Nm of peak torque.

    Gear Shifter/Gear Shifter Stalk

The transmission options include a six-speed manual, six-speed torque converter automatic, and seven-speed dual-clutch gearboxes. Both these engines are BS6 2.0 as well as RDE norms compliant.

    What about pricing and competition?

Skoda now has special editions spread out across its entire line-up. Where the Onyx fills the lower end of the portfolio, the Monte Carlo sits at the top. The newly launched Matte Edition is priced from Rs. 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom) and commands a premium of Rs. 40,000 over the Style variant.

    Left Rear Three Quarter

Notably, this Matte Edition of Kushaq is an alternative to the likes of the Kia Seltos X Line, Hyundai Creta Knight Edition, and the Volkswagen Taigun GT Edge Edition.

    • Pathetic Kushaq with abnormal sound
Car has high noise engine unheard of a petrol car. It makes abnormal irritating noise during acceleration which is normal as per company officials. Very hard suspension and low mileage.

    • Love to drive car
Those who love driving may go straight forward to choose this car. I owned a grand 10 2013 model last ten years spent happy journeys with it now it is the time to change the car and want to go for a bigger one. Look after seltos, creta ,grand vitara all the car of same segment below 15 lakh budget. But when step in skoda kushaq and take the test drive at the moment I feel something thing extra which is not in the other brands. Completed three long trips with family kurukshetra, rohtak, Amritsar, attari border from Chandigarh. In all the trips car performed very well, superb handling very smooth on highways got mileage 18-19 in all the trips with ac on at 20 degrees. No issues with ac One point I want to tell sunglasses holder make some sounds on rough patches. Rest everything super. Ample space for back seats. One more thing if you want to speed up this car after 2000 rpm it behave like a rocket. I got huge discount in July month Got the car at ex-showroom price including my Bharat registration, insurance, accessories. Always go for ambition model it has all the required features no need to spend a penny outside for any thing else.

    • Make sure you test drive well before buying
1.0 L, TC, AT, Anniversary model: has the most contemporary features. But lacks the basics for a 20 lakh car. AC is pathetic. Maruti ALTO gives a better AC. The seats are not comfy. But started back pain after a long drive. 0 to 10km pickup is pathetic. Mileage is not great for a 1.0 lakh car (gives 13 for 80% long drive and +20 % city drive). Makes irritating noise when Turbo kicks in / kicks out. NVH for this car is not good. Plus: Build quality, 6 airbags, 5-star NCAP rating. Ground Clearance. Verdict: Will not recommend it to my dear one.

    • My Skoda Kushaq Experience
The buying experience was of expected Skoda standards and professionalism. However, the car has a manufacturing defect of brake noise & low AC cooling. Service centres are not fixing it after multiple requests. The car is very safe and steady to drive with an excellent engine, though the mileage is on the lower side. I would not recommend buying this unless they make sure the manufacturing defect of AC Cooling, Brake Noise is taken care of. Otherwise, it is a Skoda car and hence one of the safest you will find in Indian markets and one of the best driving & engine experience. Would rate it 3 out of 5 overall, would have been a 4 without the above-mentioned issues.

    • Amazing car in its segment
It's very good in all aspects I drove 15000km..need to improve the music system...I have a manual. The ambition... its gears are very smooth and no hassle while shifting..mileage is quite good on highways at 80 -90km/h mileage around 18 and in the city, mileage is 14-15. It's built quality is really impressive....design suits my choice with no unnecessary muscular body...wheelbase is better than Creta and seltose..and the driving is really very smooth and Lite.

    • A powerful smart horse with costly maintenance
Servicing is a bit costly compared to a similar class car in Hyundai or kia or Nexa. The resale value is not as good as its class car Creta. Driving experience is much better than Creta or Seltos. Power availability under your foot is great.
