The AMG family of Mercedes-Benz expanded it Indian portfolio with the arrival of the GLC43 AMG coupe. As the name suggests, it is a SUV coupe version of the GLC and slots in as the flagship for the GLC range in India. The GLC43 AMG coupe is the second coupe SUV for India from the Stuttgart-based carmaker.
On the outside, the GLC43 AMG looks like a beefed up and raised version of the C-Class sedan thanks to the tall wheels, sporty bumpers and of course, the massive face with the avant-garde grille. However, one of the most noticeable aspects of the car is, of course, the S-Class Coupe (esque) tail lamps which wrap around the edges and this in combination with the rear-end give the car its sporty appeal.
Step inside and its standard AMG fare all through thanks to the carbon fibre laden dashboard, flat bottom steering wheel and chrome pedals. To further enhance the AMG look, Mercedes has also added red seat belts, AMG badging as well embossing of the logo on the seats, mats and door sill plates. What’s more, the instrument cluster too has been slightly changed with a different font as well as some AMG writing in the back. The sport SUV gets Mercedes’ COMMAND Online system. The display measures 8.4 inches and has an even higher resolution. It also allows optional digital TV/radio reception, for example, and offers a host of other features including fast hard-disc navigation, automatic tailback avoidance via up-to-date and accurate Live Traffic Information, integrated WLAN hotspot functionality and the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system.
The GLC coupe gets its 43 badging thanks to a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 367bhp of power 520Nm of torque and is mated to an AMG spec 9G-Tronic gearbox. The power is send to all four wheels via Merc’s 4MATIC AWD system. It also gets sports air suspension tuned by AMG with a four-link front axle and a multi-link rear axle setup.
In India, there are no direct rival for the GLC43 Coupe. However, with its price of Rs 77.42 Lakhs (ex-showroom) there are quite a few potent alternatives to choose from such as Volvo XC90, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Audi Q7, and Land Rover Discovery apart from stylish options like Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet or Porsche 718 Cayman.
