MG Hector 7-seater variant to launch in India in Q1 2020

- The 7-seater launch will coincide with the BS-VI implementation deadline.

- Dimensions of the 7-seater MG Hector will be identical to the 5-seater version. 

MG Motor India finally showcased its first product for the domestic market, the Hector, at an event yesterday. At the unveiling event, the company confirmed to CarWale that a 7-seater version of MG Hector is under works, and will be launched in India in Q1 2020, closer to the BS-VI emission norms’ deadline.

The mid-size SUV is the largest in its segment at 4655mm in length, and also has the longest wheelbase of 2750mm. Fitting the third row in such a large footprint wouldn’t be an issue for MG Motor India. Moreover, the Baojun 530 and Wuling Almaz, both of which share the same underpinnings as the MG Hector, are also offered with a 7-seater layout.

In comparison, the Tata Harrier measures 4598mm in length, while the Buzzard (7-seater Tata Harrier) is 4661mm long. On the other hand, Mahindra XUV500 is the smallest SUV in its segment (4585mm) to feature a 7-seat layout.

Coming back to the 5-seater version, MG Hector comes loaded with features like a panoramic sunroof, a 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen display, which acts as a command centre for the 50-plus iSmart connectivity features, 360-degree camera, six airbags and much more.

Powering the MG Hector is a set of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5L petrol unit can be had with a six-speed manual or DCT automatic transmissions. Additionally, the petrol manual also gets an optional 48V mild-hybrid system that aids performance. The Fiat-sourced 2.0L turbo-diesel is only available with a six-speed manual gearbox.
