BMW X5 M50i and X7 M50i revealed with 530 horsepower

-    The SUV duo gets a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 pushing out 530 horsepower.

-    The M50i guise is now the most powerful SUV from the Bavarian carmaker.

BMW has introduced M Performance variants of the X5 and X7 SUVs. In the M50i guise, the duo now becomes the most powerful pair of SUVs from Munich. Powering both the machines are a reworked version of the BMW’s N63 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. It produces 523bhp at 5500rpm and a twisting force of 750Nm between 1,800 and 4,600 rpm.

Compared to older xDrive50 guise, the power is up by 67bhp and 77Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic sports transmission. The result? The X5 M50i can hit 0-100kmph in just 4.3 seconds while the bigger X7 M50i could do the same sprint in 4.7 seconds.

BMW says they have upgraded the crankcase, cylinder barrels, pistons, crankshaft and cylinder head. And above all, they have upgraded their TwinPower Turbo technology. The turbochargers positioned between the cylinder-banks in the V compartment have been enlarged. Meanwhile, the direct petrol injection performs at a new maximum pressure level of 350 bar. The technology package also includes the newest versions of the fully variable Valvetronic valve control and variable double VANOS camshaft control.

The adaptive M suspensions have also been tweaked while the SUVs sit on massive yet light 21-inch M specific alloy wheels (upgradable to 22-inches). Also, the M sport brake callipers have been finished in blue-coat and are complete with M logo. The interiors of both X models get M leather steering, M logo on the gear selector, and Vernasca leather upholstery with contrast stitching. There are Aluminium Tetragon and Fineline Black inserts all around the cabin. What’s more, the M50i logo is complemented by the Harman Kardon sound system.

And if you want one, you’ll have to wait until August when the production is scheduled to start at the Spartanburg facility in the USA. However, an India debut is unlikely.
