Mahindra will be bringing in their all-new flagship later this year. First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the rebadged G4 Rexton will be launched in the country after the most awaited Marazzo. And recently, the forthcoming flagship SUV was spotted in public again, this time by a Carwale reader, while it was undergoing high altitude testing near Gurudwara Pathar Sahib on Srinagar Leh highway.
We also spied the SUV last month in Delhi. The built-in India SUV will have a ladder-frame chassis and measure 4,850mm in length, 1,960mm in width, and 1,825mm in height. The silhouette of the G4 Rexton is new and it gets an imposing character compared to the older generation. Since it will carry the Mahindra badging, the front grille will be tweaked to reflect Mahindra’s design language. Its large imposing dimensions will help the new Mahindra flagship vehicle to give stiff competition to the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X, Ford Endeavour and the soon-to-be-launched Honda CR-V.
Being a flagship, the seven-seater will be filled to the brim with all the features and equipment expected in its segment, and some more. The cabin will get Nappa leather upholstery, a 9.2-inch HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera, seven-inch LCD instrument cluster, climate control, and cooled seats.
Mechanically, the Mahindra G4 XUV700 will be powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that is likely to put out 185bhp and 420Nm. The engine will be mated to a seven-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with an optional four-wheel drive system. The company has worked on the suspension, ride height and handling to make the SUV better suited for Indian road conditions.
Mahindra is expected to price its new flagship SUV in the range of Rs 30-35 lakhs. More information will be revealed in coming days, so keep watching this space.
