Jeep has recalled 1,200 units (about 1 per cent) of the recently launched Compass SUV in the country for the replacement of the front passenger airbag. The company claims that during the airbag module assembly process, loose fasteners might have found their way undetected in the affected units. The loose fasteners may pose a hazard during an impact when the front passenger airbag is deployed.
Although there are no reported injuries, accidents, warranty claims or complaints due to the problem, the company has advised customers from the affected range to refrain from using the front passenger seats till the problem is resolved. Replacement of the front passenger airbag in the affected units of the Jeep Compass will be done free of cost.
FCA India and its dealers will be contacting the customers of the affected vehicles to confirm appointments at its authorized workshops.
