1.6L i-DTEC Diesel Turbo Engine
The Civic finally comes to India with a diesel motor in its 10th generation. It’s the same engine that also does duty in the recently launched CR-V. The Earth Dreams unit makes 119bhp @ 4000 rpm and 300Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm.
The diesel engine for now gets a 6-speed manual gearbox only and we think Honda just might pair it up with a CVT in the future.
1.8L i-VTEC Petrol Engine
The Civic also gets a petrol option in the form of the 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine. Talking numbers, the petrol motor makes 140bhp @ 6500 rpm and 174Nm @ 4300 rpm.
The petrol engine does not get a manual option and comes with a CVT gearbox that also gets paddle shifters.
According to Honda, the Civic in diesel guise returns 26.8 kmpl. Now compare this to the Civic’s smaller sibling, the City diesel which returns 25.6 kmpl. Talking about direct competition, the Skoda Octavia does 21 kmpl, the Hyundai Elantra is at 22.5 kmpl and the Corolla Altis at 21.3 kmpl.
The Civic petrol according to Honda will return 16.5kmpl. In comparison, the Skoda Octavia petrol returns 15.1kmpl, the Elantra a lower 14.6kmpl and finally the Corolla Altis which manages a higher 16.7kmpl.
