Why We Do It
Cars came into this world before roads did. At least, roads as we know them today. It can, therefore, be said that cars in the early days were all technically off-roaders. Their ability to plough through anywhere, over all sorts of unruly terrain, made them hugely popular. Horse-drawn carriages - the norm until the motorcar appeared - simply never stood a chance. The CarWale Off-Road Day powered by Gulf Formula SUV, now in its 4th edition, celebrates this everlasting breed of cars we know as off-roaders and the legacy they represent.
The Machines
Speaking of legacy, look at all this imposing sheet metal we’ve gathered around this year! Within this lot, you’ll find familiar silhouettes among a few new ones. Still, between the bumpers of each, we can assure you, lies wholesome capability and a huge appetite for going way beyond where the road ends. Some - without giving too much away - would even rather just remain off-road rather than ever hit the tarmac.
To introduce our Off-Road Day machinery in ascending order of their price tags, we’ve got the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Mahindra Thar, Toyota Hilux, MG Gloster, Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G400d. If you’ve got your biases, hold on to them dearly because the CarWale Off-Road Day isn’t a contest but a celebration - rooting for your favourite is all part of off-roading fun. Of course, it’s hard to pick a favourite from a bunch of off-roaders as venerable as these, but we all tend to find a way anyway, right?
What It Takes To Make It Happen
Now, not being a competition in no way absolves the Off-Road Day from being challenging and a true test of off-road machinery. If anything, it seems to get tougher with each passing edition.
