Skoda to build Sub-Yeti crossover

Skoda has announced that it will build a crossover that will sit below the Yeti. According to a report from Automobile Magazine France, the crossover is likely to be called the Skoda Polar and will be launched in 2015. 

The Polar will be based on the Volkswagen’s versatile MQB platform, which currently underpins vehicles like the Golf and the Audi A3. The new platform will underpin almost all new vehicles from VW group, apart from select Lamborghinis, Porsches and few Audis.  

The compact crossover is expected to be 4.1 meters long and will compete with vehicles like the Nissan Juke and the higher-end versions of the Renault Duster. It will have a front-wheel-drive setup with an all-wheel drive version planned for the future.

Skoda is also likely to get a re-badged version of the Volkswagen Taigun that was unveiled at Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil last month. The Taigun is based on the Wolfsburg based automaker's Up! city car. 

It is likely that Skoda will bring the Polar to the Indian market as this is the new home of affordable utility vehciles. Also, they might find a way to make this crossover less than four-meters to avail various tax benefits.
