Nissan India has finally launched the GT-R a.k.a Godzilla in India with a price tag of Rs 1.99 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the 2017 model and is the most significant update since the GT-R name was launched in 2007. The tuning world legend will be imported to India as a CBU and is available in the European spec Premium Edition.

The instantly recognisable shape and design of the GT-R prevail, but the new car has a lot of little functional changes spread all over it. The most prominent of which is the new chrome ‘V-Motion’ grille of the Nissan family. As with the grille, all the visual changes of the new GT-R is intended for improving aerodynamics.

The large vertical air intakes on the side, along with front splitter lips and hood vents are all focused on better airflow over the car while improving downforce. The air vents on the side as well as the side skirts all contributes to the same. The headlamps design with LED and projectors is new and there is a DRL strip present as well.

The GT-R is riding on gun metal finished 20-inch Y-spoke forged alloy wheels. The rear wing is a characteristic of the GT-R as well as the trademark dual set of tail lamps. The titanium quad exhausts sit on either side of the large diffuser. The GT-R measures 4,710mm in length, is 1,895mm wide, and 1,370mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,780mm.

On the inside, the GT-R now gets fewer buttons than before. With only 11 buttons, Nissan has decluttered the dashboard of the new GT-R as compared to 27 buttons in the previous car. The 8.0-inch infotainment screen is stacked atop the centre console with every button neatly managed in around the cabin.

The dual tone interior is finished with carbon fibre inserts. The paddle shifters behind the steering wheel which has mounted controls, along with convenient and simple instrument cluster make the GT-R a practical car to live with. Nissan says the GT-R is a 2+2 instead of a 2 seater sports car.

Powering the Godzilla is the hand built 3.8-litre 24 valve V6 engine under the hood, which packs a punch of 560bhp and 633Nm all of which is accessible from 3200rpm. Sending power to all four wheels via a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. The sprint from zero to a ton comes up in under 3 seconds and the car will go all the way to a top speed of 315kmph.

The GT-R has always been a technological masterpiece and the 2017 model isn’t any less with even more performance upgrades. The car has individual ignition timing control of each cylinder, titanium exhausts and an improved aerodynamics for a higher downforce, ensuring better handling of the car.

The 2017 GT-R now comes with an all-new exclusive katsura orange body colour, along with the regular colour like the vibrant red, pearl black, pearl white, racing blue, gun metallic and ultimate silver. Whereas on the inside, the trim has an option of red, tan, ivory and black.

Safety is well taken care of with Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), side-impact supplemental air bags roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags; energy-absorbing steering column; and LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) to properly secure LATCH-compatible child restraints

Other standard technologies include Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), stability control system with three driver-selectable modes (Normal, R-Mode, Off), electronic traction control system (TCS), anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

In India, the GT-R locks horn with Jaguar F-Type, Maserati GranTurismo and the Porsche 911 Turbo. The supercar killer will initially go on sale in Delhi, specifically for which Nissan has announced a ‘Nissan High-Performance Centre’ (NHPC) already.
