Maserati GranTurismo Review
Maserati is one of the oldest sportscar manufacturer from the land of supercars, Italy. As a part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Maserati offers three cars – the Quattroporte sedan, the Gran Cabrio convertible and the Maserati GT coupe along with the upcoming Maserati Levante. The Maserati GT is a middle-weight sportscar known for its unique styling and the Ferrari engine beating under the hood.
The low-slung sports coupe’s fascia is dominated by the gaping oval radiator grille with the Maserati crown logo in the centre. The curved air intakes on the air dam along with the aerodynamic lower lip give it an aggressive look. The grand tourer has a classic sportscar profile with the long bonnet, a raked windscreen and the sloping roofline. The three gills on the front fender are signature Maserati along with the curved rear fender. The Maserati GT underwent styling upgrades in 2012 with sharper headlamp and tail lamp design.
The Maserati interior speaks of its sporty focus with the racing style bucket seats. The interior is upholstered in fine leather. The three-spoke steering wheel is contoured to provide good grip. In terms of equipment, it gets a 2-Din music system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux connectivity. It gets cruise control, automatic climate control and paddle-shifters for gear changes. The interior colours and leather can be customised by the buyer.
Under the hood you have the 4.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol V8 engine that has been developed with Ferrari. It develops 454bhp of power at 7000rpm and 520Nm of torque at 4750rpm and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. It also has the 4.2-litre Ferrari inspired V8 which develops 405bhp of power. The rear wheel drive car comes with sport mode as well as a race mode for the higher-spec cars.
The Maserati GT competes with the Jaguar F-Type, the Porsche 911 Carrera and the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG.
