The next generation Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing in South Korea. The car was launched in 2008 to replace the Getz hatchback and it got a major facelift in 2012 to keep it more in line with the Korean automaker’s fluidic design philosophy. The new car in the pictures seems to be larger than the current model but it is believed that Hyundai has increased the wheelbase in a bid to increase the interior space.
Not much else is known about the other than the fact that despite the increased wheelbase, the new i20 seems to be retaining its familiar design. The i20 is the first in its class to offer features rain sensing wipers, LED lights, push button start, reversing camera as well as day and night mirrors. We expect that Hyundai will continue will all of them in the new car. It is likely that i20 might borrow bits of the interior from the 2013 i10 hatchback that is set to be unveiled in September.
The 2014 i20 is expected to use the same set of mills that power the current car. This means the 1.2 petrol producing 83PS and 113Nm of torque as well as the 1.4-litre diesel mill that produces 89PS and 219Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic (petrol only). The car is expected to make its global debut in 2015 and will reach our shores by the middle of the year.
