Bugatti arrived at The Quail this year with the Divo – the best cornering Bugatti till date. The Divo looks like a futuristic concept car from the French carmaker. However, it is a fully functional, limited run, production-ready hypercar from Bugatti built by the carmaker's revived coachbuilding division.
The Divo has the basic underpinnings of the Chiron, the same mammoth 8.0-litre W16 motor producing 1500 horsepower. But the aerodynamics has been taken to the next level, lending the Divo a lateral acceleration of 1.6g. The suspension has been retuned, the chassis modified and its weight has been reduced by 35kilograms. Meanwhile, downforce is boosted by 90kilograms over the Chiron. The result - the Divo is a whole eight seconds quicker at the Nardo racetrack than the Chiron. But all the modification has reduced the top speed to “just” 380kmph compared to Chiron's 420kmph.
The best-cornering Bugatti takes its name from Albert Divo, the French racing driver who won the famous Targa Florio race with Bugatti twice. The styling of the Divo is focused on aerodynamics and each element is purpose built. It’s a lot sleeker than the hefty Chiron and also has a wing at the back.
And as for the price, the Divo is a five million Euro hypercar which you cannot buy since all the homologated 40 units are sold out already. It will grace its presence at the Monterey Car week in California.
