Production of the new Nissan Qashqai has commenced at Nissan's production facility in Sunderland, UK. Upgrades to the new model focus on four areas: a new exterior design, improved interior quality, enhanced driving performance, and addition of Nissan’s new Intelligent Mobility technologies.
The new Qashqai will come with ProPILOT autonomous driving capability which controls the steering, acceleration and braking in a single lane on highways. Nissan has invested 53 million pounds in the UK factory to bump-up production capacity and enable the Qashqai to be built on both the production lines in Sunderland.
Nissan’s Qashqai is currently the best-selling vehicle that’s built in Britain, and is exported to around 100 European and global markets. It is touted to be Nissan's most successful model in Europe till date. "The Nissan Qashqai is the original urban crossover and remains the undisputed leader in the segment," said Colin Lawther, Nissan's senior VP – manufacturing, purchasing and supply chain management in Europe.
While the first-generation Nissan Qashqai went on sale in 2007, the new version represents a major update to the second-generation model that originally debuted in 2014. It finally goes on sale across Europe from next month onwards.
