Tata Safari Storme likely to get upgrades for 2013

Tata launched the new Safari Storme in October as a successor to the original model that remained almost unchanged since 1998. However, now within few months there are reports that Tata will roll out  even more upgrades in 2013 for the SUV in the form of an automatic transmission, increase in engine output and a new music system. 

The Safari Storme is powered by the 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine that does duty in the Aria MUV also. It currently produces 140bhp and 320Nm of torque. These numbers are likely to go up to 160bhp and 400Nm of torque. 

The report suggests that Tata wants the Safari Storme to compete with Mahindra’s XUV500 and plans to take a step in this direction by fitting it with a new Harman Kardon music system complete with a sub-woofer and an amplifier. Given the size of the Storme, this should provide an entertaining experience across all three rows. 

Last but not least, the Safari Storme is also expected to get an automatic transmission which is expected to appeal to urban buyers who want a comfortable experience while crawling in 10kmph city traffic. This will also give it an advantage over the XUV500 that currently does not have an auto box. With these changes the Safari Storme will into a more premium category of vehicles just a notch below the Rexton.
