Mahindra Scorpio to get a face lift, once again

Launched in 2002, the Mahindra Scorpio grew popular in the urban and the rural areas because of its cost effective nature. Mahindra has been updating and upgrading the Scorpio over the past fifteen years. A recent spy shot of the test vehicle spotted in Karnataka confirms that the fourth generation of the Scorpio is in works.

The test vehicle spotted wears a camouflage to hide the cosmetic upgrades. The face of the new Scorpio has been tweaked and the cosmetic update goes all the way to the A-pillar of the car hinting at a newly moulded fender. It is likely that the upgrade will also include a front new bumper, an aggressive grille followed by an air scoop on the hood to compliment the aggressive styling. The side profile of the new Scorpio is identical to the current model, but the rear styling is expected to get a lift. The camouflaged rear indicates the new Scorpio will get a restyled rear door, freshly designed tail lamps and a new rear bumper.  Newly designed alloy wheels are also expected and with a list of body accessories as well.

Just like in the current Scorpio, the XUV500 and the Xylo, the new Scorpio too will be powered by the same diesel mill. Under the hood will sit the same 2.2-litre diesel engine, but it is expected to churn out a few more bhp than the current 120bhp Scorpio. A standard five speed manual gear-box is on offer, but the new Scorpio is expected to carry an optional automatic transmission in its drive train.

The current Scorpio is powered by three diesel engine options 2.0-litre, 2.2-litre and 2.6-litre engine option. The first two engines produce 120bhp and the latter one produces 75bhp. The manufacturers are expected to showcase the car soon. The new Scorpio when launched, will compete against the Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
