India-bound Volvo XC40 Recharge all-electric SUV breaks cover

Volvo has unveiled its first all-electric SUV, known as the XC40 recharge. Based on the standard XC40, it is first of the five fully-electric models that the company plans to launch in a period of five years. All five cars will feature the ‘Recharge’ nomenclature.

Propelling the Volvo XC40 Recharge are two electric motors, one on each axle, producing a combined power output of 408bhp and 660Nm of torque. The model can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 4.9 seconds, all the way up to a top speed of 180kmph.

Sourcing power from a 78kWh battery, the XC40 Recharge by Volvo is claimed to return a range of 400kms on a full charge. Charging options include an 11kW AC charger and a 150kW DC fast charger. The latter is capable of charging the batteries to 80% in 40 minutes.

Visually, the Volvo XC40 Recharge remains similar to the standard model, albeit with a few exceptions such as the redesigned fascia, Recharge badging and the charging socket positioned behind the fuel cap. Inside, the model features a new Google Android powered infotainment system and a 31 litre ‘frunk’ (front trunk) under the bonnet that aids the storage capacity. The all-electric XC40 could hit Indian shores by June 2020.
