Skoda is gearing up to unveil its new Vision E Concept at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show. The Vision E Concept is Skoda’s first plunge into electrification and will also preview its autonomous driving credentials. Now, the Czech manufacturer gave us a glimpse at the interiors of the Vision E ahead of its official debut.
According to Skoda, the Vision E will be a preview into the new design language for all future electric vehicles from Skoda. The concept car to be showcased at Shanghai stage will be sans a B-Pillar, with suicidal doors and rotatable seats. As can be seen in the interior images, there will be no centre tunnel, while a large set of screens will be dominating the dashboard. The seats would swivel by 20 degrees when opening the doors to ease the ingress and egress. The centre ‘cockpit’ touchscreen will feature the Skoda Connect infotainment and connectivity system. Apart from that, each passenger gets their own screen for viewing vehicle information and entertainment. There is integrated space for your smartphone on each door where you can charge the phone with inductive charging. The phone can also be connected to individual passenger’s screen. The ambient lighting inside the cabin can be programmed in 10 colours. The boot space will be large in typical Skoda fashion, asserts the carmaker.
All this points to generous space inside the cabin because of the electric powertrain, which Skoda has been particular in emphasising. Based on Volkswagen’s new MEB platform, this unconventional powertrain shoves the battery pack beneath the floor thus enabling the glass-house to be extended further. The vehicle spawned from the Vision E Concept will follow Skoda’s first plug-in car, Superb, which will kick-start Skoda’s electrification program in 2019. And if rumours are to be believed, it will be called Aratan, since Skoda has recently trademarked this name for an upcoming vehicle.
