New-gen Range Rover Evoque spotted undisguised in India

-        The second-generation Range Rover Evoque was revealed in November last year. 

-        Indian debut is expected to happen soon.

-        Might also come with the 48V hybrid system with a new range of Ingenium motors. 

Almost a year after its international reveal, the second-gen Range Rover Evoque has been spotted testing in India. The undisguised prototype of the new Evoque was photographed by CarWale reader in Pune undergoing testing by ARAI. 

Introduced in 2011 as a Baby Range Rover, the Evoque entered into a new generation last year adopting a whole new styling, a revised underpinning and a completely rejigged powertrain. It is now the first Land Rover to get mild-hybrid technology. In terms of appearance, the sleek headlamps flanking the upright mesh grille is straight out of the Velar. Both the bumpers are restyled but the overall silhouette of the Evoque has been retained. 

Even though the new-gen Evoque is underpinned by Land Rover’s new mixed-metal Premium Transverse Architecture, the dimensions remain unchanged save for 20mm increase in wheelbase. At the back, the taillights are sleek as well, placed high up on the waistline, and get a black stripe running across the tailgate just like the one seen in the Velar. 

Inside, the Velar inspiration continues as the Evoque adopts the brand’s newest cabin layout. So now, there are two high-definition touchscreens are dominating the centre console while the gear lever is now a conventional joystick instead of the iconic circular dial. There are a host of modern connectivity features as well, apart from new-age driving aids. 

Powertrain options for the new Evoque include a new crop of Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. There’s also a choice for manual transmission but that is available only with two-wheel-drive, whereas all the other models come with four-wheel drive and automatic transmission. The 48V mild-hybrid tech is added to make the Evoque more efficient as well while a full-fledged hybrid is also on the cards. 

The new Evoque continues to compete with the likes of Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLC and the BMW X3 in the premium crossover segment. We expect the Indian launch of the Evoque soon, perhaps before the end of this year. Stay tuned to CarWale for more information on the new Evoque.
