Jaguar has announced that the I-Pace, its all-electric SUV, will be manufactured at the Magna Steyr factory in Austria. The electric crossover will be produced at Magna’s Graz facility, where the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is currently being built. The British manufacturer signed a contract with the Magna Steyr, back in July 2015, for manufacturing two of their vehicles. One of which is now revealed to be the I-Pace, which was launched at the recently concluded 2016 LA motor show.
To accommodate the additional manufacturing capacity Magna is working on expanding the facility. It is also building a new factory in Slovakia and has already opened a base in Brazil. Magna intends to have a production capacity for building at least 13,000 units of the I-Pace by 2019, the first full year of production for the electric crossover.
Details of the second vehicle from the JLR that will be manufactured by the Magna Steyr has not revealed by the manufacturer. It is speculated to be another EV, or might be an SUV from the Land Rover line-up.
Magna Steyr is an Austrian automobile manufacturing company which engineers, develops and assembles automobiles for other companies on a contract basis. Currently, its facility manufactures the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mini Countryman, the latter of which will be replaced by the new G30 5 Series in the coming months.
