- A heavily reworked Jaguar F-Type is on its way, which could either be a facelift or a new generation model.
- The new design changes are akin to the one seen on the updated XE sedan.
The Jaguar F-Type has been around since 2013. The flagship two-seater from Coventry has been soldiering on with little to no changes except for the addition of powerful derivatives like the 400 Sport, Project 7 or the SVR. So now it is the correct time for Jaguar to bring in an updated F-Type and our spy sleuths spotted a heavily cladded prototype of the same at Nurburgring.
The overall profile of the test mule is instantly recognisable. However, what’s new are those sleeker headlamps and taillamps inspired by the recently updated XE sedan. Apart from that, the fascia also seems to have undergone a lot of changes owing to the redesigned grille and reworked air dams. Moreover, the fenders have been tweaked as well. The circular hole in the cladding could also be for the new round fog lamps. The massive yet intricately-designed alloy wheels are new with a dual-tone finish. And rounding off the updates at the rear is the single-piece centre-placed exhaust which we think looks better than the circular ones.
Under the skin, the F-Type will make use of the same powertrain options as before. So there will be the four-, six-, and eight-cylinder engine options with power output ranging from modest 295bhp to a whopping 575bhp. However, if rumours are to be believed, a BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8 could replace the 5.0-litre V8 in the top-spec SVR. Apart from that, a hybrid powertrain won’t be a surprise either with the F-Type update.
Given that the Jaguar is rejigging its portfolio, Jaguar might also call this update a new-generation model. Since this is the first sighting of a refreshed F-Type, the official reveal date might still be a few months away. After its global reveal, we expect the new F-Type to promptly make its way to India as well.
