Nissan becomes the latest one to join the driverless car technology as the automaker has announced its plans to introduce a driverless car in London next month. The company will showcase the technology in a modified Nissan Leaf. Moreover, this is also the first time when the Japanese automaker will unveil the autonomous drive technology on public roads in Europe.
Officials from the government, safety and technical experts will get a chance to try out the modified Leaf. A driver will be present in the vehicle at all times and it will not be open to public. The company claims that the vehicle has overcome the shortcomings in the autonomous technology. Though in the initial stages for now, the system will not be offered in vehicles at least till 2020. Apart from Nissan, reports indicate that Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover will also be testing their vehicles this year.
The technology named “Seamless Autonomous Mobility” (SAM) us currently under development in collaboration with NASA and uses artificial intelligence along with 'human support' in order to help autonomous vehicles make effective decisions in unpredictable situations.
