McLaren has been working on the successor to the legendary F1 for over a year now. While those who have already bought the car got had a glimpse of what it was, we - the mere mortals - were yet to lay our eyes upon the new legend in the making and here it is.
Codenamed as the BP23 in the beginning, the Speedtail moniker was revealed a few months ago and one look at the car and you know why it got that badge. It is a mid-engine hyper-GT, as McLaren calls it, and has one and a half seating rows. That is because the driver seat is exactly at the centre with two more seats in the second row which, in itself, feels like an extension of the first.
Just like the McLaren F1, only 106 units of this 1000bhp ultimate GT will be built and the pictures reveal front wheels with a cover. While we are yet to know how exactly they work and for what, we are sure that it will add another dimension to its handling, just like the F1 did back in its days.
And it will not be anywhere close to being a bare-bones racer. The driver will have three screens to look at like an X-box rig if he ever decides to take the eyes off the road. The three seats will be uber comfortable racing buckets with the driver seat built bespoke for the buyer. The gear-selector buttons are on the roof if you aren’t convinced that the Speedtail is capable of flying without that active aero. And yes, have you heard that you can get the badges done in 18-karat gold?
