CES 2015: Hyundai to display variety of driver aid technologies

Hyundai will display a variety of driver aid technologies at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. This list includes an augmented reality head-up display and intersection movement system, cockpit concept and a tablet- based rear seat entertainment package.

The augmented system projects driver information such as exits, one-ways and other related formation. In short, the windshield with all the bells and whistles will look like a screen straight out of any modern video game. This system works in conjunction with a wrist band that will vibrate if the driver changes lanes without signaling or if another car enters the lane suddenly.

The cockpit concept comprises several features including a heart rate and driver alertness monitor, blind spot warning; fuel warning, turn-by-turn navigation which we believe will work in conjunction with the augmented system. Looking to go that last step, the system also transfers the directions to a smart device for going the last bit to the destination on foot. It also includes a revolutionary 3D hand-gesture system which eliminates the need for buttons and will simply allow the user to access various functions of the car through hand gestures.

Third in line will be a rear seat entertainment tablet which will have a host of apps to keep the passengers entertained. It will also have a copilot/navigator mode which will allow passengers to control various functions in a bid to allow the driver to focus on the road.

These technologies demonstrate a physical minimum-interface maximum philosophy which allows the manufacturers to ultimately provide a large variety of services at a reduced cost. The driver aid represents a quest to reduce human errors in driving and make it a much safer process.
