Skoda Octavia vRS spied testing

A lightly camouflaged Skoda Octavia vRS has been spied testing in Europe by the team at Carscoop. The Czech automaker had announced last month that it would unveil the car during the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed in July and has already released two teaser pictures in this regard. 

The vRS is based on the standard 2013 Octavia that was launched for the global markets in December last year. It uses parent company Volkswagen’s MQB platform that underpins a host vehicles including the seventh generation Golf hatchback, Audi A3 and the Seat Leon. 

The vRS is expected to get a sportier bumper, a revised front air intake (one of the covered up bits) and daytime LEDs that have also been covered up. The car also get blacked out headlamps, bigger alloy wheels, twin trapezoid exhausts, rear spoiler. Despite these Carscoop claims that the vRS still maintains its discreet image. 

We expect that Skoda will offer the vRS with two sets of petrol engines; a turbocharged 1.8-litre TSI mill producing 159PS and 250Nm of torque as well as a 2.0-litre turbocharged mill producing 221PS and 350Nm of torque. 

Reports also suggest that there will be a 250bhp petrol version as well as turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engined version.  Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a six-speed manual. Skoda might also give the option of a DSG dual-clutch with paddle shifters as well as tweak the suspension to give the car sportier handling. 

We expect that Skoda will bring this car to India a few months after the launch of the 2013 Octavia but will offer only the 1.8-litre mill in terms of engines.
