Introduced in 2011 globally, the latest-generation of the Volkswagen Beetle has arrived in India. Priced at Rs 28.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), this new Beetle combines 21st century luxuries with the iconic appearance of the original model.
With leaner proportions, better performance and well-made interiors, the new Beetle is being positioned as a premium small car for the elite. It features a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 147bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
In terms of features, the India-spec Beetle gets 16-inch allow wheels, panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, protective side mouldings in body colour with chrome strip and a rear spoiler.
Inside, Volkswagen is offering Vienna leather seats, mood lighting on front speaker surround, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, an 8-speaker sound system, start-stop system, cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers. As for safety, there’s driver and front passenger airbag, combined curtain and side airbags, ABS, ESC, disc brakes all around and brake pad wear indicator.
Available in four colour options, the new Volkswagen Beetle is now on sale in India and competes with BMW’s Mini Cooper range.
