Volkswagen launched the Arteon as a replacement to the Passat CC. The Arteon has become the new flagship model from Volkswagen in the segment of luxury sedans. This is not the first time that the VW brand has aimed at the upmarket segments. In 2002, it launched the luxury sedan, the Phaeton, which was discontinued in March 2016. The company has priced the Arteon from 34,800 Euros or  ₹ 25,21,642 onwards.

The exterior of the Arteon is unlike that of any other Volkswagen, and it carries a more edgy design language. The vehicle is equipped with full LED day time running lights and a large chrome grille which gives it an aggressive look.

The side profile is sleek and carries an evident shoulder line all the way to the rear end of the car. The fenders and the rear quarter body scoop in large elegant alloy wheels. The door mounted wing mirrors add to the luxurious feel of the car. 

The rear styling compliments the sleek side profile with majority of horizontal lines. An evident boot lip spoiler and sculpting lines on the boot lid help the car to have a low profile. The rear tail lamp is a full LED assembly and gets the same horizontal styling treatment.

The Arteon’s interior is stylish but also devastatingly simple. The cabin includes a single long air vent across the dashboard. The car gets a 6.5 inch screen in the centre console but a 9.2inch infotainment display is an optional feature. The instrument cluster gets an Active Info Display, similar to Audi’s Virtual Cockpit tech.

The Arteon is also offered in an ‘R-line’ variant, with a more powerful state of tune and an all-wheel-drive. The vehicle gets a different paint scheme and blackened alloy wheels for the R-line variant to stand out.

The Arteon gets a range of six engines. VW’s new 1.5 TSI petrol engine forms the base option with 148bhp and cylinder deactivation technology. It’s joined by two 2.0-litre option with 187bhp and a more powerful 276bhp.

The engine is mated to a seven speed DSG gearbox as standard. The lower variants are offered as front wheel drive whereas the more powerful R-line variant is coupled with 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

The Arteon is equipped with driver assistance and safety feature called, Emergency Assist 2.0. The system is intended to deal with worst-case scenarios such as the driver becoming incapacitated at the wheel and when the vehicle senses an unresponsive driver.

The Arteon is currently on sale and eats into majority of the sporty-luxury sedans in that segment. The Arteon competes against the entry level variants of the Audi A5 Sportback, BMW 4-series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes CLS.
