MG Motor India has been working on the petrol-powered variant of the ZS SUV for sometime now. The model has been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions, hinting that the model might be introduced in the country soon.
Showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, the MG ZS petrol is internationally offered with two engine options including a 1.5-litre VTi motor and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol motor. The former is capable of producing 118bhp and 150Nm of torque, while the latter is tuned to produce 161bhp and 230Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual unit and a six-speed automatic unit. Details regarding the option that will make it to the India-spec model are unknown at the moment.
The ZS brand from Morris Garages made its debut in India in the form of the ZS EV that was launched in January 2020, with introductory prices starting at Rs 20.88 lakh (ex-showroom). Internal sources have revealed that the ZS petrol will be launched in the country in the first half of 2021. Once launched, the MG ZS petrol will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the Nissan Kicks.
