This review might be helpful for guys like me who are confused to buy U-VA and Getz 1.1.

Getz 1.1 - Smoother Gear shifts but poor pick up. (In Second gear the car took its own time to accelerate inspite of accelerator pressed fully). I am scared wether it will make up any hilly rides...

U-VA - Not so smooth Gear shifts but OK. Pick up is better than Getz 1.1 sufficient for good ride.....(Gives me better confidence on engine) ...

I have a big question mark on after sales support & resale value on GM cars where Hyundai cars are considered better than U-VA...So Getz and U-VA owners - Please help me in chossing one of them.. Decision is still on hold - which one to go!

looks, spacious interiors, good city carNot sure of resale value & Maintainance

      Hi All,

I am back with my experience of 2000 km Plus of driving. I went on a long trip ( almost 600 km) in end of July. And driving almost 300 km on one side.. there was hardly any driving fatigue I had. I could find the pick up good enough while overtaking on the highway. Air Con as usual was very effective( cannot keep it switched on for long as it really cools well)
Even co passengers do not feel any sort of fatigue. So I can say the ergonomics are well designed.

Also I was out of town for a month, and after returning, when I started the car, it started in first self. So I can say, the battery/ electricals are also as per expectation.

Now my U-Va has gone for 6 monthly service, so will update my experience in a few months again.

      Happy Driving...

      Hi All,

The negative point on gear shift I have removed now. As I feel it was bcoz of me and not any fault with the vehicle.. Now as I am regularly driving I do not see that happening...
Also my experience with the dealer ( Vijai Motors, Bangalore) has really been good. They are new and hence it seems taking extra effort for customer delight and this certainly is appreciable...

      Hope this helps you all..

Now you can read what I wrote earlier :-)

      Balpreet

      Hi,

After going thru the reviews & test drive.. I decided to go for Uva compared to other similar offerings by other manufacturers.
I purchased my Aveo Uva LS model three weeks back & happy with the overall performance till now. The dealer service at the new dealership @ Bangalore has also been pleasant.

Let me share wmy reasons for choosing UVa:

Swift:- I like the looks and I would say the looks to be the best in class...Also the maruti service network is a big positive... no doubt... But then the lack of space inside made decide against it... As I wanted a small yet spacious car

Getz: I haven't ever liked the look of GETZ. So that was a big decision maing factor for me. Also the new 1.1 litre engine isn't upto the mark. So if its GETZ it will have to be with 1.3 lit engine.. So if I would have even have thought over it.. it would have been the 1.3 lit engine option.. But then the looks made me keep GETZ at the lowest ranking on my list of options..

UVa: Well.. looks wise, it was next to SWIFT on my list. Interior space & the feel of big car when you sit.. was another positive for me to go for it. It for sure has that big car feel & as a friend of my commented, it appears to be a smaller version of Innova..

I would really say it to be a hidden star.... Slowly I have started to see more n more numbers of Uva on road now. I have put in pics of my car also here.

Yeah the dealer/ service network for Chevy may not be as extensive as Maruti or Hyundai.. but its there in all metros &  other big cities/town. So its satisfactory.
There have been service concerns on GM cars in India.. but the service guarantee( 3 years service gaurantee)  now being provided by Chevrolet should also help people take the decision as it gives a buyer that comfort feel.

The kind of reviews that I could find while my search were mostly on positive side for Uva. Yeah the occasional worrying factor of gearshift .. which even I am facing.. is there...

Another issue specially in Bangalore was about the dealership. But now there is a new dealership opened up so things should be better off than before. I got a good impression about this new dealer with my interactions till now.

In terms of fuel efficiency, havent really got to check on it. So would not like to comment still.

Planning a long drive this coming weekend, so highway drive & comfort & fuel consumption I can provide the first hand review soon :-)

      Regards,

      Balpreet

      +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
      Guys,

As promised, I am back with my experience of long drive in Uva. I did around 400 km over this weekend. I can very well say that it performed as per my expectation on highway :-)

My drive was a mix of city traffic ( initially to get out of city to the highway) & then a good 4 laned road from Bangalore to Mysore. Overall I got fuel consumption of 14 km/ litres in this trip. With first service due in another week, I feel this number is decent. Also we had the A/c working almost all throughout the trip.

What we felt in this trip was:

      1) Comfort Level in such long hours of travel - For passenger in front & rear it was real comfort. rear leg room as we found is pretty good. Noise Levels inside the car with windows closed & A/C on was good. We did not feel that the speedometer  was in 3 digits range.

      2) Driving comfort:- It was a fun driving on highway. Effortless overtaking & good pick up. In fact, seeing such ease of driving, my wife commented as if I was playing a car race video game :-)

      3) Powerful A/c:- The passegner in rear did not have any complaint of improper cooling. Infact, we at times switched the A/c off as it was too cold for front seats.

One more thing I have noticed, Uva always makes passerby glance at ti ;-) The reason as  I feel is that compared to say Swift, there aren't those many Uva's on road & hence people tend to find which car is it that they are seeing on the road.

I may come back with some more of my experience later..
Good Performance, styling, Effective A/C, Comforthmm.. No as of now :-)

I bought the car on Dhantheres having booked the car in sept with a payment of 25,000. First the differential in pricing is very obvious. If you have already chosen this car, Sundaram Motors in Blore and GM will not give any discounts et. They have advertised earlier that discounts are available to teachers..now for the particular month it has been withdrawn. THe corporate discount is available if you or any friend/relative works in a large company. This is not a quantity discount offered for buying large numbers for a fleet. It is to say that if you work for a large comapny especially software then you are more equal than others who buy the same number of cars and pay in Indian rupees. GM is creating brahmins out of cyber slaves and treating even small entrepreneurs as less fortunate, hence ineligible for any corporate discount! Sundaram motors offered me free solar film...which was postponed from delivery date to first service then..no news on that after that. GM released advts about the gold coins and I wanted delivery on dhantheras hoping I will get the gold coin on that day ( just the sentiment...it is hardly worth 3500 rupees!) till date no news inspite of writing to the regional chief of GM, managers at Sundaram etc. Also, remember free service/maintenence for three years comes at a cost in my case 10,000/- was the figure quoted though from the advt the impression is that it will be free. On the price list GM offered free insurance and valued it at Rs.22,000/-...now I get a cover note for only 10,000/-.... ofcourse, i will approach the consumer courts. In the meanwhile I want as many people as possible to know. The onluy problem about going to court etc. is that both GM and Sundaram motors are large companies and will resort to methods fair and foul..am a little scared really to raise my voice...anyway I feel better having written this post. Read the small print, ask do not assume anything when buying a car. THere iss still no competition in India. Brands may be fighting for some share, but it hardly matters if one brand loses a few customers as there are others and more available customers. Best of luckWell Built, smooth runninglacks power for climbs/steep roads, not fule efficient, poor dealer service

I have done the 1st servicing at 1000Km. Its been a gr8 ride. The Milage after servicing is 15Km in city :), which is easily the best in the segment. The space for back seat passangers is quiet amazing, again, the best in the segment. Infact it can be easily compared to sedans.

I had compared this car with Swift and Getz. What turned the tide in U-VAs favour are 3 main points: 1) MILAGE 2)SPACE and 3) 3 yrs free servicing promise by Chevy.

Apart from these major points, other features that I found better than the competion were U-VAs suspension, very powerful AC( I just use it on 1 or 2..so you can imagin the cooling at 4), no knocking even if your speed is less at high gears(only chevy has this technology in this segment), excellent handeling on highways at high speeds(100km +).

The only point where Getz and Swift are ahead is probably the power output/pickup. But since I'm never goin to use this car for racing, I can live with it.

Overall, U-VA is a clear winner for me.

If there are any confuse folks out there, don't be, go for U-VA. Its the best value for money in this segment.

      Exterior Nice curves. Good look.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Only thing about space. It realy not comfort for 4+1 seaters. GM Can increse the interior space by decreasing boot space.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is smooth and noise less.   Performance wise it is very good. Fuel economy is 16.7KM. Gear box goes hard over a period.  Recently i traveled (Self drive) from salem-maduri-Tuticorin-Devakoti-Trichy-villupuram-salem, Around 1342Km.  I filled tank at salem and again i re-filed the tank at Trichy. Exciting performance for the given cost(4.2L when i purchased on Jan 2009). All you need to do is 'Regular service'.

Ride Quality & Handling Good control on long drive. Easy to handle even in tough local roads. Comfortable ground clearance. Spare parts availability is poor. EVen authorised GM service provider does not have basic spare parts such as Mirrors, Fuel tank lid etc.

Final Words Overall performance is very good.

Areas of improvement Spare parts should be available in time.

Very good value for money.Less spacious for rear seaters

Bought this car on May 2009. My budget was around 4Lakhs. Initially, my budget to go for a hatchback, started with Alto, Spark, Wagon-R and Santro. Except Alto and Spark others were reaching around 4Lakh with PowerSteering and AC, and no discounts etc. Then, finally decided on Spark looks more stylish and comfort, didn't bother about fuel economy as my average driving is going to be less. When i about to make booking Spark, i noticed UVA, and my expectations for Indian road to have PowerSteering and AC and not bothered about other interiors and comfort except Space. When i look at the car, the very first moment i liked it because of SPACE which is essential when you go long drive with Family. So, i finally decided to spend 1more lakh to get this. So far, its around 2500 kms, the drive was comfortably smooth, AC is chilling on nights even on 1st level, on DAy, it takes a while and i think its common with all cars. Braking and control of the car is good, silent engine, except in hills, when u go on the wrong gear it gives noise and again its the same with any vehicle i think. Mileage, around 12km/l on city, highway i get around 16 to 18, did not check but this is just the approx value. Comfort is awsome and spent extra bugs to keep the interior lively, now the interior looks awsome too. Could not go beyond 100 due to the roads i normally drive. this gives a feeling of having a big car, not just hatchback though it is.Overall, its a good value for Money, buyers who is thinking on going for hatchback spending 4 to 4.5 , can think of buying this base version will fit into the budget. I did the same, my friend has i10 and now he is concerned about the space, style i did not bother and when u r inside the car, its only the drive and comfort which really matters. Back space is enough to keep One huge suitcase + one small and you can add some on top of it. What else you expect on a hatch back for this budget :)

Spacious, Value for Money,Dull interior, sometimes feel need more power

I bought this car two years back and have driven almost 34000 KM.

      Following are the Pros

      1. Looks stylish and contemporary.

      2. Good Front and Rear Leg Space. Feel like ur in a big car.

      3. Fuel economy around 14 kmpl with AC in city and 18 kmpl with AC on highways.

      4. Very smooth engine ( sometimes at signals i press on gas to confirm whether the engine is on).

      Cons

      1. Slips and make noise while applying Reverse gear.

      2. Less initial power.

Overall i am satisfied with this car and its performace till date.

If planning to buy a Petrol car in this segment and budget, i would ask you to test this car and then decide.

All my friends/family/relatives who have sat in the car have loved the
space inside. Its as big as any of the sedans out there from the inside
& even with the driver seat pushed back completely, the rear
      leg-room is just about adequate.

Good Looks, Huge Space, Decent Fuel Economy, Smooth DriveNotchy Reverse Gear, Low Initial Power

I purchased this car(1.2 Base model) in the month of May,2008 and still today i am totally satisfied with the car. Car is very silent from inside and gives a feeling of a big car. I feel front space is more than the back space. A/c is pretty good and chilling occurs very quickly. Looks are impressive from front and side. Interiors are average (not very good but still much much  better than Maruti Swift and Hyundai Getz. as far i feel). I feel dashboard is much more than better in looks and style than Maruti Swift and Hyundai Getz(base model). Pickup is also pretty good.

Mileage is average (12-13 km/ltr) in city with heavy traffic condition with A/c on.

Low cost of maintenence.(first year I spent only Rs.800 for servicing) and no more.

Reverse gear is having some problem as  far as i feel, but than does not count since overall the car is good.

I cannot say anything about the highway drive. Will update soon as I am planning for a highway drive this diwali.

Lastly Price of the car is little more than any other car in this segment, but still good vale for money.

Very Spacious, Large boot, average fuel economyProlem with gear shift, reverse gear is having some problem

Exterior: Its a very stylish in its segment n very cometative... as compared now is not that gr8 yes but min graphics can make it eye catching

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): Almost have all the features for a normal comfort in its class interiors are good, nice finishing, nice cushioning an the seats.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox: Engine is good but even bit of over exceleration makes bad noise n feels like sm truck but overall i have driven the car to 160Kmph n it still runs like a horse without any big noise. pickup is not that gr8, fuel economy is very good 15.5 kmpl on a highway and 12.5 -13 in city traffic,  bad reverse gear gets stuck8/10 times.

Ride Quality & Handling: Driving is pure plesure in its class, very comfortable n easy to handel even ata high speed. good suspentions n bad roads are not a very big deal.

      Final Words: value for money

The car's exterior appeals to people with unique taste for class and time-enduring looks.

Beige interiors cater to the eyes in addition to the tangible luxury offered by the car. Storage facilities are fair enough to accommodate all normal travel requirements. Space is commendable - accommodates 5 adults easily (irrespective of size). The car does complete justice to its occupants when it comes to comfort.

The U-VA's 1.2 Lt. engine's roar and power is well experienced, more during free and smooth highway-rides than during local rides. Fuel economy - especially for within-city rides is very low compared to the car's competitors in its class. Gear-shifting is difficult at times and embarrasses the driver while negotiating roads packed with heavy traffic. But it does not count as a major issue.

The ride quality and maneuverability of the car is good.

As I do not use the car for more than 20 Kms per day on an average my concerns for mileage is limited. All that I looked for in my new car was that it should be within 5 Lacs, and that it should be an easy to clean and maintain hatchback, and that it should easily accommodate 5 adults, and last but not the least, that it should have classy looks that would endure for at least the next 10 years. GM Chevrolet Aveo U-VA's LS version perfectly fitted into my expectations, and here I'm a satisfied owner of the same.

If GM would improve the mileage and engine power of the car I'm sure it would interest a broader spectrum of car buyers.
