2016 Jaguar F-Pace

‘Surprisingly good value’ is probably the best way to describe the 2018 Jaguar F-Pace, which is now locally assembled in India. We say surprisingly good value because this new version not only costs Rs 19 lakhs less than before, it also comes standard with more equipment despite being put together locally. That’s a win-win for everyone.

You can have it with a big 3.0-litre V6 heart (which we have previously driven) or a more economical 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit which is what we have driven in this review. It joins a new breed of high riding vehicles aimed at those who want all the practicality of an SUV but with sporty leanings.

The SUVs of the olden days were required to offer a product that was comfortable, practical, rugged and with an ability to go anywhere. But in modern times, this definition has changed and manufacturers have started to give sportiness more priority while utility and ruggedness take a backseat. Now, there is a new breed of SUVs that are designed to be sports cars on stilts, but without compromising on the practicality aspect.
