The new-gen Suzuki Ertiga was first showcased at the 2018 Indonesia Motor Show cover in April. Being one of the most successful MPV in India, it will make its way to our shores pretty soon. It is rumoured to move to the Nexa premium outlet but nothing is confirmed at the moment.
The new-gen Ertiga moves to the new Heartect platform which also underpins the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. The ASEAN-spec model showcased in Indonesia adopts a bold new styling. The same styling will come to India. The SUV-like styling will include a new grille with horizontal louvres flanked by sleeker headlamps. The headlight units will get projectors and LED daytime running lights. The bumpers will get stylish elements like the raked damper around the fog lamps and contrasting black surrounds. The silhouette will retain the floating roof design similar to the Swift. At the rear, there will be a revised tailgate and L-shaped taillights extending to the D-pillar. The new model will also grow in dimensions. The length will increase by 100mm to 4395mm. At 1735mm, it will be 40mm wider than the older car and at 1690mm, it will be 5mm taller. However, the wheelbase will remain the same at 2,740mm. The MPV will on 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 185/65 section tyres.
On the inside, the cabin will have the modular layout as seen in the international Ertiga. A new 6.8-inch infotainment screen will be ‘stuck’ on the centre console with all the features available in the Swift and Baleno. The flat-bottom steering wheel will mostly be retained and will add a sporty touch to the cabin. The dual-tone cabin with wooden inserts will have ample storage space and more room than the outgoing car. Recent spy shots in India revealed large horizontal air-con vents, centre driver’s armrest and a twin-pod instrument cluster.
The upcoming Ertiga will be powered by a new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine that will generate around 101bhp of power. The new petrol will replace the existing 1.4-litre engine. There will be new automatic transmission as well. The diesel version will be the tried and tested 1.3-litre unit. Both variants are expected to be offered with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. We expect an AMT for the diesel variant as well.
The new Ertiga might also be priced slightly more than the current car. It is expected to be officially launched in India either in the festive season later this year or sometime in 2019. When launched, the Ertiga will compete with the likes of the Honda BR-V, Renault Lodgy, apart from Mahindra’s upcoming U231 MPV in the seven-seater MUV segment.
