Guys, I took delivery of the Fortuner last week and after driving it for six days - ONLY 6 days - I am feeling Saturated. Seriously - a driving a car is all about discovery, each day is a new day, you find the design welcoming, you notice a small feature and you feel you had not seen a curve earlier, had not focussed on detail of a small piece of chrome.

The Engine did well today taking me through the rough patch, the road was closed and I drove through the field in my SUV, the competition eating dirt, the auto box manages the revs so well, the lights are HID and the have a smart feature which helps me corner so well, the wipers are rain sensing, the park-a-tronic is a beauty I never thought I could have parked in such a small place.

I WANT TO GO TO LEH and not to the OFFICE in this car. And I want to go TODAY - so I am turning towards MANALI rather than NEHRU PLACE. As I hit the highway I need an audio system that will make Bhangra sound like Bhangra - and I aint letin any car CROSS me... AHUN AHUN - all the way ... I once a bought a FORD IKON 1.6 petrol and I still remember the OLD days when I would ZIP to 160kmps and leave many eating the sand.

It was fun the car though high on maintainence used to get my adrenalin pumping each time I thought of a long drive. I need a GPS "AUNTY" to talk to me, tell me where to turn and where the closest massage or escort parlour is, especially when my wife is not in the car. It has been a sinful life and I intend to continue along the same path as no amount of remorse is getting me to the heavens.

I need a vibrating auto adjust-seat to keep my blood and hormones flowing and to ensure that the useful hormones get to the right place and do not die in my arteries and vessels, effectively hampering my "performance" levels. And I do not want to hold on to a Japanese's vibrating stick, do not know why but every time I change the gear - 377 flashes in front of my eyes, and I have a real big issue with that as I am normal. I am the Macho man who is getting naughty at 40, no 30 year old who has got all his systems in high performance mode can actually think of spending 20 lacs on a car, here my friends lies the paradox.

I have grown and so has my Bank balance - and I can now think of buying a bigger and better car - but there aint no manufacturers who can give me one that is the right product at the right price. Is there no justice in this world and why does it happen that a car that is priced at 10 lacs or less in other countries has all the goodies but not in this country.

This Fortuner thing weighs about 2000 KG and has baout 160 BHP of power- getting to 100 KMPS takes about 20 seconds - a moped accelerates faster- try it if you do not believe me. You can expect the Tires to last you about 40,000 kms and no more as against a normal life expectancy of about 60-75,000 kms. Fortuner does not have TRACTION control so how the hell do you expect it to behave the DAY YOU ARE IN TROUBLE - even if you have paid 20 lacs.

The Skoda 3.6 V6 - 260 bhp petrol 4*4 (0-100 in 4.1 secs) is an option - I can live with a mileage of 5-6 kmpl but the maintainence is extremely high and Skoda has a bad track record on service. The Japanese are a BIG let down in India- when Honda launched their product many of my friends and especially their wives and girl friends had refused to sit in those cars (probably for the first time in life both the wife an dthe Girl friend agreed on the same point) for the quality of interiors- Honda realised it much later and only when the competition kicked their butts. Still Honda choses to mess up on the Jaaz and the Accord the Sales numbers prove the point- monthly sales down to 200 cars from 800 plus.

Toyota might have garnered 200 bookings but they need to sell for 4-5 years and that certainly is not going to happen. The FORTUNER is a big let down on build quality - the engine is not from a car but from a BOAT - do some research on the web and you will find out - this is not the same engine that is offered in other countries. The Gear Box looks as a souped up piece from a world war 2 Willys jeep, and quite certainly the engine behaves like it is at SEA. The NOISE and the RATTLE that comes to you is HORRIBLE, especially when I start it in the morning and the neighbourhood in New Friends Colony Delhi- comes to know that I am leaving for work!!!

I really do not know why but these Japanese are doing some sort of experiment on the Indians - on testing our tolerance - let us see how long this lasts and what are the results. The customers will kick their butt once again and they will upgrade this SUV to acceptable levels in about 8 -10 months of the launch but the fact remains that those like me who trusted these Japanese with our hard earned money and 20 lacs is no JOKE- have got a VANILLA car- whose actual value is no more than 12 lacs.

Those of you who think it is a GOOD SUV - Have never seen a Good SUV, my prayers will always be with you.

Good looks over the competitionLousy Interiors, Innova Lineage, a part each has been borowed from Corolla, Camry and Innova

My reviews on Toyota fortuner is also based on my 4 year driving experience of Toyota fortuner in Dubai.First of all talking about the exterior,i really loved the menacing build and sheer size and greater ground clearance which enables you to take it anywhere you wish. The fortuner is a decent desert offroader provided you have deserts in your neighbourhood for camping and other fun.As far as India is concerned, you dont need a desert offroading performance which toyota stables boast of in Middle East.If you have a decent ground(140cms) clearance and nice set of tyres you can take any car anywhere in India. But more importantly the toyota fortuner in Dubai is a real value for money SUV as it cost only as much as 10 lakh rupees. You wont believe it!!For this price this SUV is outright the best in the world!!No second thoughts!!

Coming to the over 20lakhs price tag in India, your fortuner is not at all worth it.Definitely please do not buy it as there are other options for you as of today.

When you consider 20 lakhs, you need at least auto gear. You are not paying 20 lakhs to sit in an Innova cockpit. The manual gear in Fortuner will give plenty of noise and vibrations to the whole body.Even my fortuner in Dubai which has auto transmission gets vibration on four-wheel gear which is irritating. But in Dubai these things can be swallowed as the price is really worth it.

You dont have electronic seats, auto ride level control, rain sensors, mileage warner, posh interior and a good audio or dvd player which other competitiors in India provide for much lesser price.

As far as engine is concerned,it wont disappoint you, sure trademark.Ride quality and handling in Indian roads is really going to be bumpy as fortuner is a little taller SUV and gravity will play its part. But overall it wont be bad.

My final verdict is that for this price tag of RS 20 LACS,its definitely a turn off.

Toyota should have sold this SUV under 15 LACS.

good off roader,wanna-mess-me looks, the brand itselfPoor interiors, noisy and vibrations all over

      Hi,

READ ALL REVIEWS BUT BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Best car in its class. The only far off competition is the New Endeavour and the Pajero. But still the Fortuner is miles ahead. It would be wrong to compare this beauty with the Captiva, Vitara, CRV.

This site has a feature called compare cars, please refer to that.

There is no doubt the Fortuner's performance will speak for itself.

The interiors could be spruced up a bit. But the overall performance would compensate for that.

Read a lot of reviews written by you guys. 95% of the guys want to buy this car at 12 to 13 Lakhs. Well I would suggest please get the Innova and be happy AND please DONT write biased views.

Those of you really looking for a great SUV this is it in the price band of 19 to 22 Lakhs.

I am sure most true car lovers would agree me me.

Need any other help please let me know

      New Endeavour vs the Fortuner

The new endeavour is like old wine in old bottle with a NEW label and cork.

The cosmetic changes have been made to the car for eg the New bumper, new Headlamps, Taillights, The tyre cover and the MOSt important AUTO transmission.

The engines are almost the same cc.

Both are 4 wheel drive (Fortuner All time 4 wheel) Endeavour is optional 4 wheel drive with variable ratios in both the SUVs.

Height: The Fortuner is taller than the Endeavour

Lenght: The Endeavour is longer than the Fortuner

Width: The Fortuner is broader than the Endeavour.

Price wise not much to choose from roughly about 75000/- (the Endeavour being cheaper than the Fortuner with some plus and minus features). BUT it wont bother those planning to spend 20 LAKHS.

The dash board of the Fortuner has a better look than the Endeavour in terms of display .

Climate control and steering control buttons are absent in the endeavour, the fortuner scores here having both.

Also the multi display is absent in the Endeavour, the speedometer display looks much better in the Fortuner).

I personally found it easier to get in and out of the Fortuner compared to the Endeavour.

Getting in the middle row is a problem with tall people in the endeavour as you are sure to bang your head against the top.

The last row seating of the fortuner is much better than the Endeavour , sitting in the endeavour last row gives a feeling of sitting on the floor.

The moment you step inside the the cars you start to feel the difference (it would depend on person to person)

The fortuner gives you a comfortable feel as to the endeavour. The fortuner being slightly wider than the endeavour gives you a feeling of more room in the cabin.

The length of the endeavour being longer makes no difference to the leg room in all the three rows.

Sitting in the drivers seat feels better and safer thanks to the height of the Fortuner.

The all round view even while reversing is better in the Fortuner.

Parking would be a problem for both the cars in city. But for the endeavour it would be more due to the rather big tyre cover at the back and the turning radius(Endeavour takes more space to turn).

The music system sounds better and is better in the Endeavour which also has a DVD player. Well for fortuner lovers you can always have them fitted.

Auto gear box is a plus for city driving which the endeavour has, but would take away the thrills on the highway. All the talks of these cars being unstable to a certain extent at high speeds are not applicable in INDIA, do we have the roads to drive at 150kmps?

A fully laden Endeavour tends to droop at the rear due to the extra lenght of the car. (not a pleasant sight on the road)

If one wants an automatic and longish looking SUV the Endeavour is your baby.

If one wants a commanding SUV then Forutuner is the right choice baby.

Pick up of the Fortuner is much better than the Endeavour.

As far as mileage is concerned Fortuner would have its nose a little bit ahead.

Ratings as far as I am concerned on a scale of 1 to 10

      ENDEAVOUR ......7

      FORTUNER.......9

Well guys see and drive both the cars for your satisfaction. People are talking of this SUV and that SUV should have been introduced by Toyota or Ford at a certain price, Friends take what you have as both are frontline SUVs.

Have you ever seen these bizare comments by people for the Mercedes BMW or AUDI as to they should do this and do that.

Have the money enjoy it dont crib.

      CHEERS

Please feel free to leave your comments

Exterior The Car is Discontinued From Thiland. People should visit Toyota's Thiland website and see how old models are launched in India.

      look at this link:

      http://www.toyota.co.th/en/models/fortuner/fortuner2007_home.htm

      http://www.toyota.co.th/en/models/innova/index.html

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The interior in the Innova in Thiland are much better than the fortuner in India.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The engine is a wierd combination a 3 litre with just 4 cylinders. What a way of saving cost. its d worst combination for a car at that price.

Talking about the gearbox it is same as the innova. Why are people closing their eyes and buying the car. the 4*4 shift has a gear knob for shifting it. Look at the outlander and vitara much more advanced. they have button shifts. The car just looks appealing but is not woth it.

Ride Quality & Handling The suspension is not even a fully  independant suspension. It is jus same like the innova. But still people close their eyes and nuy it.Why so.

Final Words Finally people who have bought it have jus wasted their money in an older technology. You can see toyota's market trend for India. All taht is discontinued from thiland comes to india. they started it from day1 with the qualis.. It was a 40 year old model and the launched it sayin the NEW QUALIS how funny that was .sSee they sold so many..thanks to us people for buying outdated technology, Well fortuner is not worth the money.

Its The discontinued model from Thiland..The car is outdated

Bolero versus Fortuner Folks I am a semi urban kustomer and need to ride "OUT" as many have tried to project in other reviews - to the wastelands of this country - namely the villages- where I have a home- MY HOME. The fortuner is being positioned as a SUV or MPV or any other V .... but you need to remember that this is one hell of a messed up product from Toyota. The Bolero true to its Price - 3.5 lacs on road does a good job of ferrying me and my family and also the fact that when I need a job to be done at my house it is the perfect piece of equipment. Extremely low on price - the noise level is the same as that of the Fortuner and I can drive it the way I want it. As for the Fortuner - my friend got it to my house to show off- both got flooded partially with water Bolero was cleaned in 30 mins - the Great Off-roader from Toyota - the Fortuner has been sent to the workshop as it started stinking. Then about a week later when we got it back we drove it to a 5 Star for an evening party- the noise it created in the lobby of a 5 star hotel - we thank toyota - we got everyone's attention, even if they were staring at us - Badnaam hue to bhi to kya naam na hoga- at the function where we had landed - all of us remembered us as the noisy fortuner owners - we were the Noisy Stars for the day. When we had to leave, we did not have to inform the courtesy desk who we were and what car we CAME in riding. Excellent hotel service or was it some thing else. We two days ago went out to Jim Corbets and the Great Fortuner hit a small 6" rock - the front left wheel needed minor repairs- the cost 73000/- SEVENTY THREE THOUSAND RUPEES , for trying to go off road. Bolero full front wheel replacement would have costed about 7500/- only.Nothing Good at that PricingPrice, Product Profile & Configuration

Well, I had written a review of the car when I bought it  and have read with amusement the "cry foul" stories posted on this site!

Well, like some of the readers have pointed out, we should blame the government for the price, not Toyota. The comparable performance cars are all costlier- dont crib about the price, it is not under the manufacturer's control altogether. Maybe if we all pay our taxes properly and pay more tolls, the government maynot have to squeeze us buyers for money. That is a very long story and I have no intention on going on.

I have taken my fortuner out into the wilderness many times, onto absolutely dangerous looking hill terrain, beaches and sand, slush and shifting soil, fully loaded and she behaved absolutely fine. My daughter always says " Oh the fortuner can go there", and for a girl who is not too fond of cars, that is a big big compliment.

Yes, I changed the brakes after yelling at the dealer a couple of times, and yes , now it feels adequate. The lights are now HID Xenon for 6500 Rs, and is a huge bonus. The dash has also been altered, and I have fitted the Motevo original equipment touch screen DVD/Radio/TV/Sat navigation/Bluetooth which set me back 45,000 and no one would buy back the old CD changer (sob) but still, it looks absolutely top class, and works like a dream. Why did not Toyota do all this for a price at the launch? BIG question. We could have afforded all that, surely. WHy cringe to make it a few thousand cheaper?

The dealer is good, but paint jobs ( crazy motorcyclists in Kerala cross from all around you and if you dont move, even if you are a big SUV, they crash into you!) are too expensive. I have a few cuts and bruises that a good painter manages very professionally at a fraction of the cost. There have been absolutely no maintenance costs- this is solidly built. Four of us friends bought the Fortuner within a few months, all feel the same.

My advice to people who want a comfortable, luxurious, silent, ego boosting ride for 20 lakhs, go buy a HONDA ACCORD and stop cribbing about the price. Even an accord costs a ridiculously low price abroad, no one is complaining. An SUV is not meant to be comfortable in the true sense of the word. The all time 4 WD lets you rip around corners with amazing ease and highway overtaking is a dream. You got to use your gears well, but what else is driving? Do you know that the Prado shares the same engine and empties your pocket by three times the cost? Yes, there is lil more torque, and is auto, but nothing more.

For people like me, busy professionals who have another passion- driving, the Fortuner gives it all at a cost that is actually matchless. Yes, we have families who share this passion and take all the bumps and motion sickness with a Gravol (antiemetic) and a smile, and this adds to the pleasure of long, adrenaline pumping trips with the whole family in tow. My parents who are both in their seventies took the third seat for the last trip that was partly over bad roads for over 400km. They were excited, and never complained. If you have the passion that I and many others have, and a family that loves long drives to the unknown, there are very few cars that will match this one. Well, I have decided that three years later, I will probably go for the X5. But I am not sure if I will take it through the same bad roads with the same wide smile I have when on the wheels of the fortuner.

Fabulous road presence, good handlingnot much actually

      Exterior

Looks wise there is no other SUV that comes close to this REAL KING on Roads.  Its Massive, Majestic and indeed looks very very Sexy....

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Nothing great considering the price you pay for it... the seats are so cramped and uncomfortable considering your leg position ( the platform is so high that the seats look as almost they are attached to the same ), very little boot space considering the size and poor quality seats ( again considering the very high price of the vehicle ), Basic Music System, No Reverse Parking Sensors, No Reverse Parking Monitor ( No provision for this too and in case one requires this will have to fix it at the corner of the dashboard which will look awful ).

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Once you are inside and switch on the Vehicle you start shuddering.... such is the vibration and about the gearbox less said the better.... Can't imagine why there must be so much noise and vibration inside....What is the need for a full time 4WD in a country like India where 4WD is hardly going to be used...Fuel Economy is botched because of this...About Engine Performance too early to say but considering its a Toyota should not be a major problem I guess though very scared to make a guess....

      Ride Quality & Handling

Disappointing to say the least mainly because of the vibration inside the cabin and the discomfort.  One is sure to get cramps because of the uncomfortable seating position and hence long drives are going to be difficult I suppose.

      Final Words

Having been a Toyota User for the last so 15 years ( including my overseas stint where was using a Lexus 4WD ) this is a big let down by Toyota. When someone is going to pay such an huge amount one would expect basic features and not such a skeleton version with so much riding discomfort.

      Areas of improvement

Everything except possibly the Exteriors and the Looks.

Great Looks, High Ground Clearance ( forget the necessity ) a REAL KING on Indian RoadsUncomfortable Seating, Unbelievable Vibration ( your whole body shudders ), Extremely High Priced

      Dear Sir,

I booked a toyota fortuner from Om Toyota and paid Rs. 1 lac. as booking amount and at the time of booking i was given a priority no. 6. After launching of the fortuner i went to your showroom to confirm the delivery date of vehicle and met with your sales officer Mr. Prashant. I was  surprised and shocked when he told me that toyota has no such  policy to disclosure / confirm the tentative date of delivery . I was misbehaved  and harassed  by your sales officer. He told me to cancel the booking and take the  booking amount.

It is true that launch of Toyota fortuner is very successful and everyone from Toyota is enjoying  but it is also true that  customer made this dream true. Now, in this position I am not willing to buy  any Toyota vehicle in future so I request you to cancel my booking and deliver the vehicle to a person who can  afford to pay extra money ( called black )  to OM Toyota.

      Regards,

I fully agree with a review published above- If you really think back- the qualis if it had been upgraded over the years would have been the Fortuner- the esential difference being- better looks, HID lights, better interiors, engine upgrade from 2.5 litre to 3.0 litre, similar mannual gear box but upgrade from qualis offers 4WD, a small rear parking beep radar- the cheapest available on the market. ABS given as if Toyota is doing us a big favour, and not to forget - the price tag at a WHOPPING 20 lacs, versus the 7 lacs for a Qualis. I would never pay 20 lacs for a Qualis upgradeGood Looks, HID LightsPricing

LARGE NO. OF PEOPLE HAVE COMMENTED ABOUT TOYOTA WHICH IS CHARGING MUCH HIGHER PRICE  FOR A CAR WHICH IT ACTUALLY DON'T DESERVE BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT HOW MANY  OF US WILL ACTUALLY PURCHASE A FORD ENDEAVOUR/ CHEVROLET CAPTIVA/ MITSUIBIHI PAJERO/ NISSAN X-TRAIL IN FRONT OF A TOYOTA BADGE.ALL THESE CAR MAKERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OFFER THE SAME QUALITY AND RELIABILTY AS TOYOTA EVEN IN GENERATIONS AHEAD.A OWNER OF TOYOTA CANNNOT EASILY SWITCH TO ANY OTHER BRAND EASILY.
Top build quality.toyota reliability, proven engine, last but not the least "peace of mind"value for money, familiar interiors, lack of features.long waiting period
