Exterior I will keep it short and simple, hyundai couldnt have done a better job with the exteriors looks of this car. this car literally flushed the ford fiesta out of the market.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very good job on the interiors. im driving the 1.6 SX OPT verison, full leather upholstery(even on the doors) good quality plastics, bit of chrome adds a good touch, driver seat being height adjustable and adjustable thigh support is great. not to mention the 6 airbags give u an added sense of security. the Auto AC is such a neccesity these days. lots of space here n there. the reversing camera and push button ignition, bluetooth streaming, keyless entry are also good features.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is very powerful(128 PS), being an enthusiastic driver myself i haved raced this car with tata safari(140 PS) and it gives the safari a run for its money, overtaking cars in the same segment isnt a big deal.
fuel economy: i have driven this car for 1300KMS now, im getting mixed results, 6th gear on highway @ 100-110 returned 18.5 km/l, 140-170km/hr returned me an acceptable 14KM/L, which is acceptable i drove abt 160 kms in around 1 hr and 40 mins on a road that has traffic going both ways. basically i was going very hard on the acceleration pedal from a very low speed quite often.
Gearbox  : im not so impressed with the 6 speed gear box .... yes if u want to travel at 120km/hr ++ then it makes sense, but for city driving with such a monster under the hood its hard to even get it into the 5 gear! there goes ur city mileage!!!!

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is excellent compared to the old verna, that old one felt like it will go upside down anytime, This baby is heavier, more stable, better handling, believe me the ABS makes those sharp turns while risky overtaking so smooth u will start appreciating the car at the very moment!!!!!! braking is good, might be great too but i havent been too hard on the brakes yet!!!!!

Final Words Taking it for the first service tomorrow, will let u know how it behaves on the milage and performance from after that.

      Areas of improvement Gear box!!!!

looks, interiors, auto AC, ABS, good drive trainthe 6 speed gear box!!!!! , reversing the car!!!!!

Above average looks in this segment. Good leg room and comfortable driving module. Excellent planning in putting in the smallest of accesories inside. The car has seen more than 2 lakh kilometres, and have been submerged under waters once at Ludhiana during August 2011. It was the only four wheeler that came out of that flooded area and though the engine stopped in between, but it restarted on hitting the self. Amazingly shocked to see that car performed almost a year more without much repairs on the electrical systems also. Excellent ride quality. I have done 2 lakh kilometres in 3 years. except for AC compressor, its been worth every penny put in. Extremely low operating and maintenance cost. I am so satisfied with the performance that I am going for Verna 1.6 SX for my next car. whoa!!! what a drive!!!! All terrain excellent performance on all fronts. Gosh we should thank Hyundai for bringing in power and economy under one unit.

Sturdy, stylish, Great on road performance, Excellent fuel economyLacks airbags, AC Compressor was horrible

      Hi,

I have purchased Verna VGT CRDI on 1st Oct 2011.

From first service (1200 KM) onward I am facing following problem in vehicle

      1) Performance problem: Vehicle feels pathetic acceleration at high speed and start vibration and noice. And it’s unable to cross 160 KMH mark which can be easily done by any other less powerful competitor like Ford Feasta, Accent CRDI and even by Indigo. This also feels in gear shift. If we change gears as per user manual provided along with vehicle , then it become unmovable and engine starts heavy vibration and sounds BURR BURR … its turbo charger gets in effect only if engine RPM cross 2200. If AC is switch ON then performance become more pathetic.

      2) Mileage problem Mileage is only 12KMPL on hinghway driving @ 120 Km speed

      3) Low visibility on night driving Headlight is not enough for night driving. And things are only visible for few yards.

      4) Stability Issue at high speed Again hat high speed vehicle becomes unstable and tries to go off-road in either direction.

      Exterior Good.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiar is very good. I was having Maruti SX-4 and compared to SX$ Seating is low. At the time of entering the car you have to be carefull otherwise your head can hit with car.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox At certain gear speed you do not have to use accelarator as engine automatically adjust speed. Depending on gear speed is maintained automatically in trafic.

Ride Quality & Handling Suspension is OK on Highways but on small road having uneven road you have to be carefull, otherwise person seating on backside is not very comfirtabel.

Final Words Every thing is very good, other than ground clearance. (Big flaws).

Areas of improvement Ground clearance. Even small bump on road need to be carefully drive. If 5 person seating in car and you have to be very carefull for small bump.

      Look is good.Ground clearance

      Exterior Impressive Exterior.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good. Some features are unique in its class.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Poorest performance. Gives only around 10 Kms/ Lit in City driving. Around 12 Kms on Highway. Please remove the average of 17.01 Km that you are showing on Car Wale.com. It is misleading and I decided to buy Verna because of this. Had I known the average is 10, I would definitely have not bought it. It is absolutely Inefficient Car and the Concerned Authorities should ban the sale of such Fuel Inefficient Car!! Have driven for around 2500 Kms and am amzed to see this kind of performance. The Hyundai Service Centre themselves confirm that the average of 10 is what is to be expected!!! How come you are showing 17 Km?? For this kind of class of car, this is very very low. Even my old Honda City was giving me around 14 km!!

Exterior While changing the tyre wheel bolts are shearing of. once 1 bolt got sheared off and 2nd time 2 bolts got sheared off. So I changed all 4 bolts in 1 wheel. Cost of repair Rs 2100.00.I have never heard wheel bolt shearing during change of tyres. The tyres provided (MRF Radial tube less) has very minor leakage which is very difficult to findout. Out of 5 tyres I am finding this problem in 3 tyres. Now I am so fearful of changing tyres that I am planning to keep Car in garrage and go to office in bus. Overall Hyndai Ascent is a much better car than Verna Fluidic.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Its Air intake system is in very low height and water goes to engine .Cost of repair Rs13000 to 190000. Other company vehicles are going safely in the same area without any issue. This is a big flaw.

Good lookingBad tyre bolts, bad air suction location, bad tyres

      Car Model:-Verna Xi.

      Year/Month of purchase : 2007, Nov

Hi, my car has completed 1 year, though I have only driven about 5000 KMs till now, but have really tested the car on both Highways and typical Mumbai traffic. I must say that the car has not disappointed me on any front , be it the pickup, interiors, space, amenities. It gives me appox 8-10 km in the Andheri traffic. I did faced a peculiar problem of engine going dead in the middle of nowhere a couple of times in the very first few months of my purchase but then it was taken care in the car service and since then I haven’t really seen any problem at all in the car.

I strongly recommend for every buyer to test drive Verna before opting for any other car in sub 9 Lac segment,

      Navinder Chauhan, Mumbai

Great Pick-up, Smooth and Soft Steering, good interiorsFound the ride quality a little bumpy compared with Honda cars

The Maruti 800 based on the European Alto IV (SS80 in export markets) was launched in December 1983 in a four-door, two-box saloon (the tailgate opened only from the externally hinged rear window that was the access to the boot area) with a total length of 329.5cm. The car was powered by a 796cc, three-cylinder, SOHC, 6-valve, carburetted engine and had front-wheel drive. Power was 39 bhp, which though not much, still made for a respectable power-to-weight ratio because the car weighed slightly above 600kgs. The launch price was INR 47,500 making it the cheapest car at that time in India. The rivals tried to play it down on the power front, citing three cylinders to be insufficient for taking on a five-passenger load.

However, the Maruti 800 proved everyone wrong by a long margin. It was a time of licenses in India and manufacturers needed to get a license from the government on what to make and what numbers to make. This used to create a huge gap between demand and supply resulting in long waiting lists. Often waiting lists for cars would take up to three years to clear. A Maruti 800 booked in 1984-85 would be cleared only by 1987-88. The 800 soon notched up a huge waiting lists as sales boomed.

      Maruti 800 Present

The Maruti 800, in 1983, marked the introduction of the modern automobile into the Indian passenger car market. People were awed by Japanese reliability, ease of operation, refinement and fuel efficiency - attributes that the small Indian passenger car industry, in 1983, was unable to provide.

Reasons for the success of the Maruti 800
Within a few months of its launch, the Maruti 800 became the largest selling car in India, a title it has held for every month since then, till the month of May 2004, when its stable-mate Alto led it by a few hundred units.

Like all success stories, it is difficult to point out one single factor that has been responsible for the car's success, but several factors stand out, including:

The Maruti 800 is the cheapest car in the Indian market. With India being a largely price-driven market, the 800 has become an entry point for first time car buyers. Price difference between Maruti 800 and its nearest rival used to be about INR 50,000-100,000, which is 25-50% of the 800's price.
The Maruti 800 makes an excellent entry-level car. It is good value for money and yet comes with basic amenities like air conditioning, coil-sprung rear suspension and bucket seats in the front. Indian legislation has also ensured that there are three-point seat belts all around.
Over the last twenty years the 800 has established a reputation for being trustworthy and reliable.
The Maruti 800 is simple and basic and yet sophisticated enough to meet the requirements of safety and comfort.
Maruti has the largest network of dealers in India, which means that the 800 has the widest reach.

      Maruti 800 1997

Apart from these, the 800, being a Maruti model, enjoyed a number of benefits from the government. There were other sops too specifically for Maruti, which helped the company keep prices down for the 800. The Indian government is alleged to have curbed competition in order to promote state-owned Maruti. Consequently, several new car projects like Premier Automobiles planned tie-up with Nissan to manufacture the Sunny in the mid-80s did not receive government approval. Thus the Maruti 800 (actually up to the late 90s) did not have any real competition in the Indian market. A long period of more than 15 years without any real competition ensured that the 800's volumes stayed high, enough to amortise costs of the plants and dies used for manufacturing. This has ensured that the Maruti 800 has managed to retain its low pricing in a market where the nearest competitor, till a few months back, was priced about 50% higher.

      Maruti 800: the timeline
Maruti launched the first 800 (Alto IV generation), the SS80, in the Indian market in December 1983. The car was known just as the Maruti 800 and was essentially a four-door saloon with a rear window that opened for access to the boot area. The model received a heavy facelift in 1986 with the introduction of the SB 308 body style. This new shape made the 800 into a five-door hatchback though the mechanicals remained the same including the 796cc, three-cylinder engine and the leaf-spring rear suspension. This body style continued unaltered, barring a few changes to the grille, for the next 11 years till 1997. The present Maruti 800 shape was launched in 1997. Maruti replaced the carburetion system in the 796cc engine in early 2000 with an MPFI unit to meet the Euro II emission norms. Power went up from 39bhp to 46bhp though there were no other major changes. Platform remained the same though the rear leaf spring suspension was changed to coil springs for the deluxe model. The company also offered a five-speed gearbox in the deluxe model. The 800 in this form has continued till date though the company has now withdrawn the five-speed gearbox from the range in order to push the new Alto.

      Hyundai Verna Diesel

The drive --- The engine is very slient and one of the BEST i have ever driven, if anything that makes me go ahead and buy the vehicle is the engine, rest is all a compromise. The vehicle is pretty smooth and drives well on the 1st and 2nd gears at about 1800 rpm, cross the 2000 rpm and the HELL breaks LOOSE, the 110 horses are in action. you zoom past the 100 kmph mark in just as little as 11 seconds. The brakes are very effective. The steering is pretty loose, made me nervous for the high speed drive. AC is effective and so is the visibiliy.

But not worth the price !!!!!!!!

the diesel version is good on the pocketthe quality of the interiors
