Hyundai i40 wagon facelift spotted doing a winter workout

The Hyundai i40 has had to sweat it out in recent times. Its rivals are established contenders such as the VW Passat and the Skoda Superb. And to make things more challenging, the upcoming prototype seen here isn’t even an all-new car, but a second facelift.

We could instantly make out since the test mule’s glass-area is identical to the current i40. Plus, the shape of the mirrors and the headlamps are the same too. In this sighting, the i40 prototype can be seen undergoing benchmark testing against an Opel Insignia that’s clearly visible in the background.

Although Hyundai remains tight-lipped about the drivetrains that will power the facelifted car, sources suggest that the current line-up of engines could soldier on, albeit in a different state of tune. The 1.7-litre diesel motor is reportedly is the best seller in the range.

Reports add that when the i40 debuts in the sedan and wagon body-styles, it will also lock horns with the group’s own Kia Optima. The facelifted Hyundai i40, in all body-styles, is expected to debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March.
