Hyundai India announced an increase in the price of the Grand i10 hatchback by up to three per cent. The revised prices will be implemented from August 2018. The Korean carmaker has said that the increase in input and material costs is the reason for the increase in the prices. This hike would result in an increase of around Rs 14,000 to Rs 22,000 on the price tag depending on the trim level.
The Grand i10 is one of the highest selling cars in India, averaging around 12,000 units each month. It also managed to surpass the Swift for a brief period with its frugal engines and value for money tag. The B-segment hatchback received a major update last year with cosmetic changes and a new diesel engine. It is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. It can be had in eight body paint options including two dual tone schemes.
The hatchback is available across 14 variants in the country. It gets the 1.2-litre Kappa engine from the i20 that develops 81bhp of power and 114Nm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic gearbox and drives the front wheels. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel engine continues under the hood with the 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. It also comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine feels powerful and peppy while the diesel engine needs to be revved to get the juice, but it is excellent for city driving especially with the smooth torque curve.
The Hyundai Grand i10 competes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo, Nissan Micra and the Honda Brio. It has the advantage of a robust feature list and affordable and widespread service network. It was priced between Rs 4.75 lakhs – 7.53 lakhs before the price hike.
