The Ford Mustang is probably one of the most popular cars in history. The pony car has adapted itself with time to outdo its arch rival the Chevrolet Camaro. In spite of its demand in right-hand-drive markets, Ford did not build an RHD car till this one.
The sixth-generation Ford Mustang gets a long hood with a large bulge on top, vertically stacked daytime LED lights and projector headlamps. The signature Mustang mesh grille has now been made larger in a bid to improve cooling but overall the car retains a familiar shape that defines the range.
On the sides, the Mustang appears to have a more compact shape thanks to the lower and more sharply raked roof line. It appears to have got larger wheels and mirror mounted indicators. At the back, the Mustang continues with the three-piece tail lamp design but now the rear bumper looks much more aerodynamic and tends to stand out thanks to the dual exhausts on both ends. What is new is that the rear overhang has been reduced and consequently this means the car will have a lower drag coefficient.
Ford has completely changed the Mustang's cabin, giving it the look of a truly modern product. The overall layout is more stylish and easier to figure out. A long strip of metal spans the width of the dash. Other dash materials include leather, complete with contrast stitching, and soft-touch plastics.
It also gains creature comforts found in most luxury cars, such as radar guided cruise control, blind spot warning and a sensor key. The centre stack on the car has been fitted with the Blue Oval's optional MyFord Touch system. Ford has fitted the new model with a set of secondary analog controls for the HVAC and audio. The steering wheel is slightly smaller in diameter but features a wide assortment of buttons controlling everything from the audio system and Bluetooth to the TrackApps and instrument-cluster display.
The India-spec Mustang will be offered with the iconic and colon busting 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine 395bhp and 515Nm of torque. The V8 is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and powers the right set of wheels. While there is no official word on it, Ford may bring out EcoBoost powered Mustang to India in the future.
The Ford Mustang competes with the Audi S55, the Audi TT and Mercedes SLK for the price tag at which it has been launched and us the most powerful of them all if not the most good-looking.
