IAM SANDEEP AND IAM VERY HAPPY TO OWN THE GRANDE. ABOUT GRANDE I LIKE ITS STYLE,PERFOMENCE AND COMFORT.ABOUT ITS STYLE,FROM THE FRONT IT LOOKS STYLISH AND FROM BACK VIEW ITS ONLY GOD.BUT WHEN WE FIT REAR SPOILER IT LOOKS IN A GREAT PASSION AND STYLE.

ABOUT ITS PERFOMENCE, IT IS EXELLENT. MY HOUSE IS AT A HIGHRANGE PLACE SO WE CAN EASILY KNOW MORE ABOUT IT ABOUT PERFOMENCE.

ABOUT ITS COMFORT, IAM VERY SATISFIED. WARNING FROM SEATBELTS , REACH IN SPACE AT REAR AND AT MIDDILE RAW.BACK SEAT IS FITTED WITH BUCKET SEAT.IN THE MIDDILE RAW MORE SPACE THAN ANY OTHER VECHICLES.

Exterior Good exterior features, but must take more care regarding the body finishing. eg: the gap between the bumper and body, bonet and body etc, the side guards are not fixed properly, so we have to check it after every water service.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Quite good interiors regarding the price the tatas are charging. It could have been better if the quality of the bucket seats are improved, the sponge quality and quantity is very less the the Upolsory people told me that it is difficult to improvise in the existing seat.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Good engine, DICOR is good, We dont get sudden pickup, but I am getting 15.1 km milege, at 60km/hr, 80km/hr range of speed. steady speed. I am definetly happy, because such a big vehile giving this milege is fantastic.

The engine sensors are giving little false informations.

Ride Quality & Handling Body balance is little bad, Speedy overtaking and cutting, we need to be little cautious becuase the back side of the vehile, moves in such a way that we have a feeling that we are loosing control.

Final Words Finally according to me  it is a very good vehile. For the price. For a middle class indian family. Big dreams for a small price. (Its what I feel).

Areas of improvement Please improve the Service network, Tatas service centrers are the training center for Mechanical Engineering Strudents, according to my findings. We on good belief hand over our vehiles which we have purchased from our hard earned money, and  to my surprise qualified tata approved personels are rarely seen in there only trainees. So please tell me how can you improve your servcie?

Good Mileage...Space.....Road presence......Little bit noisy.....Not much pleasing service....

Car looks good but from next day horn stopped to work, braking is not good, car stability on even at 90-100km/hr looks shaky. No support from Customer care even when I spoke to local regional and Pune Head office, sent mail to them also but till today no response. Car has started giving various kind of noises within 1000km of driving. thinking to sell off as this kind of service and vehicle was not expected. worst thing is there response, after buying car no body listens to you, one can imagine how he will feel.Stylish, SpaceFull plastic feel, started giving various sounds within 1000 km., Horn failed, stability issue

Exterior It has a very good exterior with out looking the name you cannot say that it belongs to the sumo family. It is the best looking vehicle among bolero, xylo, scorpo, inovasafari etc.

the toyota inova looks rubish it is such a long vehicle but doeas't have a little space.the grande is far better than inova.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The dasboard is quite good but it should be little change.the power window switch is excellent and the space is out standing the rear mirror have ultra style indicaters. The ac is out standing.but the ac in bolero is rubish.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox It is powered by 2.2litre dicor engine and is a very powerfull vehicle .it millagei some what13kmlandthe gear box is excellent.

Ride Quality & Handling It takes 0to 100 in 17.2 sec.riding quality good with the fully loaded gx variation you can turn it while the speed is more than100.

Final Words It is the best in class vehicle between the range of 6 lakh to 9.5 lakh.

Areas of improvement Dasboard should be little improve and thename sumo should be remove.

Exterior Front is ok needs improvement on the rear side.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Features are good space is excellent as compared with scorpio or tavera or innova.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is quite powerful, fuel economy compared with power is very good at 13kpl, bit of improvement ofcourse is required on gear box.

Ride Quality & Handling Riding quality is superb when you are on the BEAST and that too on six lane highway.

Final Words Overall a nice BEAST to ride upon on long drives tirelessly.

Areas of improvement As stated above, but any one going for this vehicle must go comparing Xylo, Scorpio since after release of RAJNEETI Scorpio has got fame of Mafia vehicle, In certain colors Grande MK-II is superb to make people feel your presence. I have driven this vehicle for more than 28000 kms on various roads and conditions but had a trouble free driving of course having serviced the vehicle frm time 2 time. Going for SUV go for MK-II a BEST OPTION comparitively.

Exterior The looks of this muv can't be explained in words if you want to experince it, go ahead and take a look whether it's old grande model and especially new mk2, from side also it's wide doors and bigger windows let you to have a commanding position that hard to find any if it in it's compeititors.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) I must say new feature added is usb port which is must for a modern muvs and suvs also. but the tata must add the backup collision warning system which is must to have as the rear visiblity from the driver seat is average, so warning system will be a relief.what can i say about comfort and especially space that you can't find also in new safari storme which is musch narrower compared to mk2 or old grande. head room is also great in segment  and can compare to any of it's compeititors and it won't fail, that's sumo grande.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance is excellent according to the given weight and dimensions of it's muv, however the roll over of this car is not good which is not good at all, which tata should perfectly tune the suspension and chassis for better corner manouvering.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride is good and handling is good too, and it won't let you to ahve stress in long journeys.

Final Words Excellent car for bing and small families as it space can't matched to any of it competitors and even the safari storme.

Areas of improvement Especially roll over managment systems and bumper plastic quality.

      looks,wide doors,refined door engine.bumper plastics only.

Lust green fields, massive SUVs, chicken tikka and also the land of lassi! Yes, I’m talking of Punjab, which is one of the states in the country where the Green Revolution took place in the 1970s. I frequently visited my hometown in Ludhiana as it about 350km away from New Delhi, to meet my folks.

As a Punjabi by-heart, I have always liked SUVs but never really bought one for myself, though my dad had a Sumo Grande. Recently Tata had organized an off-roading event in Chandigarh, which I had missed out. Later on, I came to know there is an array of such proceedings to be organized under the banner “Full Throttle” and the next stop was in my hometown, Ludhiana.

Being a Tata event, we needed a Tata SUV to participate. This was sorted, as dad had a Sumo Grande. I got it confirmed from Cougar Motorsports— the event management company— that 2WD vehicles can also play a part. Soon, I got myself registered for Full Throttle and also for my FMSCI license.

The event began on a hot Sunday morning, when the temperatures were soaring about 35deg C. The weather wasn’t pleasant and the light from the sun was blinding. We were flagged off from Hotel Park Plaza in Ludhiana and were heading towards to the bank of river Sutlej. There were about 35 cars that participated and we all drove in a convoy. The off-road venue was about 15kms away from the hotel. As it was early morning on a holiday, the fleet reached the destination in 20 minutes. The terrain which was on the banks of Sutlej posed some exciting challenges, and we had to complete the trail within a maximum stipulated time, to qualify as finishers.

This was the first time I went to off-road, and mine was a 2WD. I was confident of the ground clearance of the Sumo Grande however it was the momentum of the front-wheels that concerned me.  The completion of first challenge amongst the total of six boosted my confidence. Slowly, the confidence rose and finally I crossed four of the challenges. We drove through slush, downhill, uphill and various tricky arrangements.

Then came one of the most difficult challenges where the Grande finally got stuck. The Grande was towed out with a tractor and soon we completed the most different terrain part. After this we headed to the last challenge, which was all about maneuvering.  The Sumo Grande was easy to steer and passed the maneuvering test and there ended our off-roading day. This was the last of the challenges and soon we returned to Hotel Park Plaza, which was also our starting point in the morning.

On reaching back, we came to know the point where we got stuck was a challenge meant for four-wheel-drive vehicles. Still the Sumo Grande was able to pass most terrain challenges except for the fifth one, which was made for 4x4 vehicles. Driving on such terrains was fun. This was my first such outing and I wish to participate in more of these events. I never knew going off-road will be such a joy.

Living in a city like Delhi, I hardly drive my Sumo Grande. Being dad’s car, it was here in Ludhiana. I drove a hatchback in and around Delhi as this is easier to drive and park. But this event opened my eyes and showed me the true capability of the Sumo Grande. The tuning of the engine is fantastic and the Grande pulled well, even while I drove in a higher gear. I felt it to more drivable than my diesel hatchback, as there was no kind of lag from the turbocharger. Sumo Grande doesn’t feel anything difficult to drive. It is as easy to drive as a hatchback. It does feel a bit large initially; all it needs is some getting used to. Even the handling at high speeds is good and car doesn’t feel shaky. Driving off-road was also simple, the engine’s high torque even at low rpm pulled out the vehicle without any difficulty through different terrains.

Apart from the ease of the engine, our savior for the day was the ventilation system of the car. The air-conditioning saved our skin, protecting us from the burning sun. The tints weren’t too dark and still the performance of the air-con was commendable. I wasn’t certain of how will it perform, considering the large interior area of the car.

All in all, a well spent Sunday. The event hasn’t just made me realize how good my SUV is, but got me connected to it. Now I will have to reconsider my thoughts and also consider a SUV for my next car buy even for my Delhi commute. The combination of ease and comfort are its biggest forte and this made me realize that I cannot get in my hatchback. Thanks Cougar Motorsports and Tata Motors for such an event.

Exterior Awesome Exteriors with Commanding Size.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Not Too Bad - little bit old style interiors.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Seems super in highways and averge, performance in cities.

Ride Quality & Handling Really the BEST.

Final Words SIMPLY THE BEST FOR THE MONEY SPENT.

Areas of improvement I bought this (tata sumo grande lx ) huge car 2 YEARS.The car powered with old safari engine of 90ps power which is good enough for all. The worst part of this car is power steering which seems not good especially when we ride at speed greater than 120 km and the best part is the excellent body structure and weight which doesnt get oscillate or disturbed when we move at the top speed. In rare cases Clutches work poorly . The ever best part is its great milege in highways or citys and cost of spares are at highly reasonable price. It cruises well even in Hill climbings.

Muscular Style , Size , Spacious and PowerLow Pickup in city traffics

I saw this car for the first time in Sep 2008, when I visited Kerala. The external looks reminded me of Land Cruiser & Pajero.
How ever one thing which I was always unhappy about Indian made vehicles is no different in this model also - Poor plastic quality. I dont understand why on earth they build such crappy interior for such a good looking car. If the interior is improved, this car can compete with lower/middle end SUV's in international market.
Atleast they can release a higher end model with better interior!
I have tested Toyota Innova & its interior & plastic quality very well matches with those we see abroad.
How ever the pricing is good. It is definitly a car to go for when we look for value for money. The highest specification will cost you just 8 lakhs, which is not really bad. Bear in mind, a higher end configuration Innova can cost you anywhere between 13 & 14 Lakhs.
Good exterior looks, sturdy, reasonably pricedCheapest quality plastics, poor interior, poor upholstory and floor mats
