Mahindra Ssangyong will launch the Rexton SUV in Mumbai on October 17. The Rexton will be the flagship vehicle in passenger car segment from Mahindra, which will compete with premium SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Pajero and others on price.
The Rexton launch in Mumbai will be followed by events in New Delhi and Bangalore, as the SUV will be rolled out across India in phased manner. The Rexton will be the first product from Ssangyong to be launched in India, since Mahindra acquired the Korean car maker in March 2011.
Ssangyong had recently launched the new updated Rexton W in global markets and we are expecting the same model to make its way here. Although the technical specifications are not available as yet, the word is it will be powered by a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder common-rail diesel engine developing 152bhp and 367Nm of torque. It is also touted to be 20 per cent more efficient than the current engine at 13.7kmpl with the 2WD five-speed automatic transmission. Inside expect the SUV to be loaded with features cruise control, automatic wipers, ESP and roll-over protection.
