Next-gen BMW X6 development continues

Our spies have managed to spot the all-new BMW X6 testing in Munich. It combines the visual traits of the X5 with the profile of the X4, thus creating what BMW calls a Sports Activity Vehicle. The G06 generation model will share most of its underpinnings with the G05. And like the X5, the X6 will be manufactured at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA. 

In its most spartan configuration, the sDrive40i will be the cheapest model available in the US. Then you have the AWD-equipped drivetrain options, starting with the xDrive40i. Just above the M50i sits the X6 M that will borrow the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 600 horsepower in the M5. Considering that the F16 is expected to end production in July 2019, the F16 will be the second BMW from the modern era that will be phased out without a Life Cycle Impulse.

As a brief refresher, BMW pulled the plug on the F15 after five years of production during which the facelift everyone expected to arrive, never came. Moving on to the European model, the G06 will be available with the B57 straight-six turbo diesel as well, in two flavours: xDrive30d and M50d. The quad-turbocharged engine option packs no less than 760Nm, making it torquier than the M5 with 750 Nm.

Turning our attention back to the prototype, the low-profile summer tires and blue-painted brake callipers lead us to believe that BMW is testing M Sport add-ons on this particular example of the breed. Dynamic Damper Control will come as standard, aiding the X6 in terms of ride comfort and corner-carving capability.
