Market introduction
The BMW XM was launched on 10 December, 2022. The vehicle was unveiled in September as part of the 50th-anniversary celebration of the M Division.
Engine and specification
The BMW XM is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine with an electric motor to produce 653bhp and 800Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to an eight-speed MSteptronic transmission which powers all four wheels. The XM is capable of sprinting from zero to 100kmph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 270kmph.
The 25.7kWh battery can be charged using a 7.4kW AC fast charger and offers a driving range of 82-88km. In the EV mode, the vehicle is capable of attaining speeds of up to 140kmph.
Exterior
The exterior is highlighted by a unique contrasting ‘gold-on-green’ finish. The vehicle gets a sharp and angular design language, while the sides are highlighted by sharp character lines all around, a set of 23-inch aero wheels, and large black ORVMs. Further, the XM features M-specific diffusers both in the front and back. The rear profile is highlighted by a quad-exhaust setup.
Interior
The BMW XM gets carbon fibre elements and quilted leather upholstery. The dashboard is highlighted by a curved display and a 3D headliner with 100 unique LEDs. For convenience, the vehicle offers four-zone climate control, a head-up display, and a 1,500W Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

New Era of HybridAfter driving the BMW XM for more than 500 km, I can confidently say that it is one of the most unique luxury performance SUVs I have experienced. The first thing that stands out is its commanding road presence. The bold design attracts attention everywhere, and the premium interior feels exceptionally luxurious with high-quality materials and advanced technology. On the highway, the XM delivers impressive performance. The power is available instantly, making overtaking effortless, while the ride remains stable and comfortable even at high speeds. Despite its size and weight, the handling is surprisingly sharp, and the adaptive suspension does a great job of balancing comfort and sportiness. One of the biggest surprises during my drive was the fuel efficiency. I achieved around 35 km/l on the highway, which is remarkable for a vehicle of this size and performance level. This makes long-distance touring far more economical than expected. The cabin is spacious, quiet, and packed with features, making every journey enjoyable. The sound system, ambient lighting, and comfortable seats further enhance the driving experience. Overall, the BMW XM combines luxury, performance, technology, and practicality in an impressive package. The XM’s design is aggressive and attention-grabbing, with massive proportions and a unique, futuristic look that stands out on any road. Inside, it offers a premium experience with top-notch materials, advanced tech features, and comfortable seating. However, the ride is quite firm due to its coil-spring setup, and it doesn’t handle as sharply as smaller M models. The electric-only range of around 60 km adds some efficiency for short trips, but this SUV is mainly about power and presence.
