Tata is expanding the Tiago family of cars. One of the most successful models for the Indian automaker in recent times, the Tiago family has the standard hatchback (in both manual and AMT guise), the Tiago NRG cross hatchback and now it will add the Tiago JTP.
This is performance oriented version of the hatchback and was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo alongside a similarly designed version of the Tigor compact sedan. Tata Motors had announced their partnership with a Coimbatore-based company named Jayem Automotives and this will be their first major product. There’s a turbocharged petrol engine, fancy looking bits on the outside as well as the inside. Along with tweaked styling elements, the car also gets an upgraded suspension system.
The Tiago JTP gets a revised front end in the form of sportier bumpers with larger air intakes, new fog lamp housing, blacked out headlamps and a JTP badged grille. The car sits on 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels with side skirts and contrasting ORVMs. In addition to these, the Tiago JTP gets a diffuser at the rear with a roof spoiler.
To distinguish it from the regular version, this car gets leather upholstered seats, aluminium pedals, eight-inch Harman Kardon audio system and more. Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine that generates 108bhp of power and 150Nm of torque, thereby making it quite powerful as compared to the standard model which produces 84bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
We expect that Tata will price the Tiago JTP in the region of Rs 5.5 lakhs to Rs 7 lakhs and only offer it as a top of the line model. Here, in terms of pricing, it will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Honda Brio.
