BMW X1 petrol launched at Rs 37.5 lakhs

BMW has added a petrol variant to the X1 line-up starting at Rs 37.5 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Called the sDrive20i, the petrol is offered only in the X-line trim.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine develops 190bhp of power and 280Nm of torque and comes mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox transmitting the power to the front wheels. Like all BMWs, it is laden with safety tech including six air bags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Side-impact Protection, BMW Condition Based Service (Intelligent maintenance system), electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor.

In terms of looks, the new-gen BMW X1 has grown in size over the previous generation car and now looks like a proper SUV rather than a crossover. The signature kidney-grille and the twin-pod headlamps are complemented by a chunky bumper. The profile is also beefy, thanks to the flared wheel arches. Inside, the BMW X1 gets all the bells and whistles including a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, cruise control and power adjustable seats.

The X-Line petrol joins the diesel option which is offered in three trims – Expedition, X-Line and M Sport, in the Indian car market. With the difference between petrol and diesel prices now reduced to about 10 per cent, buyers preference has shifted back to gasoline, especially since its mileage is low. 

The X1 competes against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the Audi Q3 and the Volvo XC40 along with the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque.
