फॉक्सवैगन is considering revisions to its product life-cycle plans. This announcement comes from Michael Horn, Volkswagen Group America CEO.
Horn, speaking to Bloomberg, said, “Redesigned models would be launched every five years and they would be given a facelift after three years.”
The plan puts things into fast track with VW group’s current system of introducing new models every seven years and a facelift after four years.
According to Horn, "We’re working to shorten the life cycle of the products to bring more new features and design elements, in terms of facelifts, to the market quicker." He went on to say the plan makes sense and could help to improve sales.
It seems the company’s board is yet to approve of this idea by Horn. And, if the idea gets the nod it won’t be implemented until 2017. Nevertheless, this new plan might be part of the company’s need to be competitive in the market in a market like the US where products need to be updated quickly.
In India, VW updated two of its products the updated Passat and Jetta after launch. Now, the German car maker is bracing up to launch the facelifted models of the Polo and Vento. The cars will also get a revised diesel motor and addition of DSG gearbox for the diesel models. The facelifted models of these cars are expected to be available July onwards.
