Toyota Camry petrol model unlisted from official website

Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has unlisted the petrol model of the Camry from its official website. However, the Camry Hybrid is still on sale.

We have stopped receiving prices of the petrol Camry from dealers as well. This, along with the official removal of the petrol version from its site hints at the variant being discontinued from the Indian market. The last recorded ex-showroom price of the Camry petrol in October 2017 was Rs 29.75 lakhs. The sedan came powered by the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol mill as seen in the Hybrid. However, this engine churned out 179bhp of power and 233Nm of torque and came mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry Hybrid continues to sell at an ex-showroom price of Rs 37.22 lakhs. The Indian market got the updated Camry in April 2015, when it was offered in two variants - petrol and hybrid. Last year, the facelifted Camry was launched with a reworked fascia including a redesigned front bumper with a large air dam and circular fog lamps. While the petrol version got HID headlights, the hybrid version features LED headlamps. Even if the safety features are the same, the hybrid rides on 17-inch alloys wheels as against the petrol, which got 16-inch alloy wheels.

Last year, TKM had also suspended the sales of the Camry Hybrid. This was due to the hike in hybrid car prices under the new GST ruling and also owing to the poor sales of the sedan. Nonetheless, the carmaker resumed sales of the first and the only hybrid model to be manufactured in India. It will continue to be a part of Toyota's line-up and, in fact, now Toyota is banking on it as a part of its plan for electrification of vehicles.
