India-bound 2019 Hyundai Elantra: Now in pictures

The sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra has been around for some time now. Although it doesn’t sell in large volumes in India, it is one of the highest selling Hyundai overseas. The Korean carmaker has now given a mid-life update to the executive sedan. It is expected to arrive in India sometime late next year. Until then, let’s have a detailed look at the new India-bound 2019 Elantra though the pictures:

The cosmetic updates to the new Elantra include a sharper styling all around the car. The headlights are now triangular in shape with sharp edges tapering into the grille.

The characteristic cascading grille is present but gets gaping horizontal louvres with no chrome inserts. It is flanked by triangular fog lamps.

There are creases on the bonnet which add to the overall drama. The silhouette remains more or less unchanged but the car now sits on stylish 18-inch alloys.

At the rear, the i30 inspiration is seen in the tail lights which are now more upmarket than before. The license plate position has been moved from the tailgate to the bumpers.

The styling of the Elantra makes is more stylish than before. But that’s not all. The Korean carmaker has also added several features as a standard fitment.

The long features list includes forward-collision avoidance assistance which brakes automatically when it detects an imminent collision.

The lane assist can apply steering input at speeds over 60kmph. The driver attention alert can warn the driver depending on the tired driving patterns.

There is also the safe exit assist that alerts the driver when a vehicle approaches from behind, thus letting passengers know it may not be safe to open the door to exit the vehicle.

Also part of the update is the new-gen AVN 5.0 infotainment system. This now comes with an eight-inch screen with bird’s eye-view navigation and smartphone integration.

Under the hood, the engine options remain the same. The Korean sedan gets three petrol motors a 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated unit and a turbocharged 1.4-litre.

Meanwhile, the 205bhp 1.6-litre GDI is also present. The transmission options are either a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Hyundai India will also offer the 1.6-litre diesel engine in the country which puts out 125bhp and comes with a choice of manual and automatic transmission.

When it arrives next year, the new Elantra will continue to rival against the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis and Skoda Octavia in the D-segment apart from the upcoming Honda Civic.
