Audi has subtly revealed the new-gen S8 sedan a few days ago. The souped-up version of the flagship comes with aggressive styling, sportier interior and mental power output from its V8.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbo replaces the six-cylinder unit from the older S8 and punches out 563bhp and an earth-shattering torque of 800Nm. It also gets a 48Volt mild-hybrid system. But even after weighing a colossal 2.5 tonnes, it takes the supercar-shaming 0-100kmph time of just 3.8 seconds and the top speed is limited to 250kmph.
Appearance-wise, the S8 is a typical sleeper. If you are to remove the massive yet sporty alloy wheels and the S badging, it would be hard to differentiate this beast from the standard version. There are some tweaks on the front fascia only visible to keen-eyed Audi enthusiasts. And there are quad exhaust tips at the back too.
Changes on the inside include sporty carbon-fibre finishes combined with matter aluminium inserts all around the cabin. The sports seats get leather upholstery and contrast stitching while there are many S badges all around the cabin. The newer safety and driver aids equipment is present in the S8 which includes five radars, six cameras, 12 ultrasound sensors and laser scanner. Under the skin, Audi has included predictive suspension as standard fitment as well. Other equipment includes Audi Drive system, quattro all-wheel-drive system, four-wheel steering and carbon ceramics brakes, to name a few.
The new S8 will go on sale soon in the international markets although prices are yet to be divulged. Audi’s latest flagship might not receive a full-blown RS treatment, but the S8 might just suffice.
