BMW 5 Series Review
BMW had globally unveiled the seventh-generation 5 Series in October last year. The carmaker launched their premium sedan, the G30 5 series in mid-2017 for the Indian market.
Built on the carmaker's new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, this new G30 5 Series is around 100kgs lighter than its outgoing model. This latest iteration also has slightly larger dimensions, as it is 36mm longer, 6mm wider and 2mm taller than its predecessor. This new 5 Series gets the latest headlamp design from the BMW stable and some more tweaks to the exterior.
Nevertheless, the overall design is more of an evolution rather than something completely new, like the latest 7 Series.
The car offers a complete package of luxury and comfort. Some of the leading interiors features in the BMW 5 Series include ambient lighting, roller sun blinds for windows, well cushioned seats and air conditioner. The car comes equipped with a number of innovative features like electrically adjustable front seats, automatic anti-dazzle interior mirrors, gear shift paddles, cruise control and rear view camera. The cockpit of 5 Series includes a smooth dashboard, which comes fitted with equipment like instrument cluster and a sporty steering wheel.
In order to provide complete safety to its passengers, the car comes equipped with BMW Secure Advance Package, which covers alloy wheels, tyres, engine shield, key lock out assistance and interior protection cover. In this package, the company also provides 24x7 road side assistance with all its versions. Along with these features, the major safety highlights of 5 Series include a head airbag system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), electronic vehicle immobilisation, crash sensors and tyre pressure indicator.
Globally, the new BMW 5 Series is available with two diesel options and two petrol engine options. However, the Indian market will get only three of those. The 2017 BMW 5 series gets a 2.0-litre in-line four cylinder diesel producing 190bhp and 400Nm of torque. Top end trim gets a 3.0-litre in-line six cylinder diesel churning 265bhp 620Nm of torque. On the flipside, the petrol variant is offered with only one engine option of 2.0-litre inline four cylinder engine which produces 252bhp and 350Nm of torque.
The BMW G30 5 series will compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class long wheel base, the Audi A6, the Jaguar XF and even the Volvo S90 in the Indian market.
