Full Review

The car has been put on diplay in Delhi yesterday but test drive is not yet available. Hence, the review is based on the looks only assuming that power, driving comfort and other mechanical features are same as those of Duster. Exteriors look better than Duster. Interiors are more or less same as thaose of Duster. Space and cpmfort are same. Seat covers are ordinary. Rear vent of AC is fitted in a crude manner and causes obstruction in seating of third passenger. Could have provided some more space for smaller items like bottle holder and a mobile stand etc. Ford has done it very well in Ecosport. Music system is ordinary, they could have given touch screen. I heard Renault has started a touch screen music system with in built GPS in Duster.

Test drive is not yet availabe. It has been put on display yesterday only but power and performance are already known since engine, chassis and txn etc are same as those of Duster. AS compared to Duster it does not deserve a price rise.

Instead of wasting money on 1495 CC Duster / Terrano, will prefer SCORPIO, SAFARI STORME, ARIA and superb VFM Maruti ERTIGA, GM Enjoy. Ecosport has way better styling and good price. Those who look for space 2600 CC BOLERO & 3000 CC Sumo can be considered....

Girish, in the case of Renault and Nissan in India, the agreement between the two states that if one company's car is sold by the other, then the second company has to sell it at a higher price. This is the reason for the Scala and Pulse being costlier than Sunny and Micra. It is not because Renault is a well known premium brand. Now the reverse will operate ie. when Nissan prices Terrano, it has to be at a higher price than Duster.

Duster Vs Terrano comparison is based on the pricing badge.

Eco Vs Terrano might be the case with styling, but still there is a huge price gap of approximately 3-4 lakhs between the top variants of each

@Agastya, IMHO pricing is not based on who is rebadging whom? It is more based on positioning of the brand. And all of us agree here that Renault is a premium brand than Nissan (Worldwide). This is reflected in previous rebadged cars e.g. Sunny/Scala and Micra/Pulse.

Renault is not the parent company of Nissan. It is a strategic alliance between the two companies through a cross shareholding.

@Shiyas, the comparison may not be between Duster and Terrano. It will be between Terrano and Ecosport. And Terrano has to be priced attractively (Not necessarily cheaper) to sell against Ecosport.

If Terrano is more appealing than the Duster both internally and externally, then, what it will do is, it will eat the sales of Duster.

Some body who is prepared to buy a duster say at 13L would rather go for the Terrano at 13.5L (Just approximate pricing given for example only).

Yeah Nissan should do something to show that there is worth paying the extra money or else they can be rest assured that no customer is going to buy just hearing that it is a nissan car..How good they are able to market the premium features is to be looked about

The Interiors of the Terrano are far bettwr in terms of design and aesthetics where teh Duster is hampered. Technically both cars are same

Agastya on 05 Oct, 2013 at 10:08 AM

Now for the terrano-duster delimma..!

Here is the surgery..

Nissan lists 96 dealers and service centres , while Renault lists 122 dealerships and service centres . The Duster price range starts at Rs 7.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.49 lakh. Nissan will price the Terrano about Rs 50-70,000 more than the corresponding Duster model. So is the extra cost worth it??

Same engine options and technology, hence mileage is also same, as the kerb weight of both cars is practically same.

No audio controls on steering on the nissan terrano whereas duster boasts it.(earliar critised for the odd placing of the audio controls in duster ,it slammed the critics by proving to be placed  at a more accessible place )

Duster offers touchscreen navigation which sadly the nissan dsnt .Nissan offers the old sedate multimedia system wich will soon be worn out with flux of time..or rather it is alreadyTongue Out(mind u a touchscreen system from (outside)after market purchase would cost u no less than 25000-30000rs)

so is the premium paid on nissan terrano worth it..??Surprised

So which one

The Terrano will definitely appeal to someone who’s looking for a compact SUV but finds the Duster’s design a little too common. The Terrano is a good-looking SUV, but i have no objection to the Duster’s styling whatsoever. The Terrano doesn’t give you any added features over the Duster despite the extra dough. So prima facie, the Duster comes out trumps, but only a more exhaustive on-road comparison (and price information) will finally settle the matter.

Guys plz comment and share ur views..i hope this was helpful..!!cheers

@shelly ;@ girish

Greeting to all..

I'd like to bring light on the pricing issue regarding the renault - nissan alliance cars. The fact is the co. rebadging the car will set a higher price as against the original car so as to reap benefit of the Re-badging strategy.

Also renault is the parent co and nissan a subsidiary co, and renault worldwide has a greater brand value worldwide owning to its technology and premiuness (renault owns an everwinning F1 car).AND renault cars have better resale value than nissan it is a parent co.

Back to thE pricing

Shiyas Rehman on 04 Oct, 2013 at 03:43 PM

I think it has to do with the timing also. As Renault already launched Duster, Nissan's agreement is to price slightly higher than Duster.. Yes it will definitely affect sales but then they might be trying to promote about the premium interiors (which many duster owners complain for)
