For once I am in a fix as to what I have to do with my new Teraano, given the fact that I have purchased the same just by going by the brand value and not having done my home work pretty well and getting the basics wrong.

Myself owns two cars Honda city and Swift VDI( 5 years only). I was in search of descent car with perfect ride quality and descent mileage. Priorities were, Toyota Altis, Fortuner, Innova, Scorpio, Nissan Sunny. Fortunately or unfortunately I got obsessed with the good looks of Terrano. I have also used Nissan Sunny. Finally I booked my vehicle at EVM motors cochin. Took delivery of my new Terrano XL Plus on 22 November 2013 from cochin and that too after having issues regarding the delivery of my vehicle. Finally after getting the Terrano delivered, I have noticed the following:-

      Comparison:

This is a much touted model and I have shelled a few lakhs for the same and the dealer has not shown the courtesy to provide me with mud flaps and mats for this premium vehicle and that too being one of the first customers in Kollam.

Nissan Terrano looks great from outside, but for a 13 lakhs car the interiors and other features are disappointing for the standards of Japanese number 2 car maker and world’s 6th largest car maker. The build quality can be compared to a 6 lakhs vehicle, the glow box and other plastics are worse than the old maruthi 800. Each door makes a different sound when closing. Another issue is when travelling on uneven roads or deep curves on mountain terrain then the steering is not steady and vibrates and bounces unevenly, the with Swift ABS handles it much better.

The micra and sunny has indicator leavers in the right side while the Terrano has it on the right side which is not suited for Indian conditions. When stopping and them moving from signals, traffic jams or on highways you will not be able to indicate as the indicator leaver, headlights flash is on the same side as the gear leaver, you will need a third hand to use the indicator and flash leavers. The console is the same as the Logan.. it is pertinent to note that the wiper and turn signals are not standardized to suit Indian standards. We tend to use more of the wiper than the indicator especially if you have more than one vehicle. It makes all the more difficult to engage the gears while turning on the signals and vie versa which in turn increases the risks of accidents and jeopardize the safety of the driver as well as that of the passenger. Flashing of the headlight during an emergency is much of a problem when you are changing gears.
Standard 5 wheel rotation cannot be done as even the full option model of 85 bhp does not have alloys spare wheel, in case you change your spare wheel then your vehicle will look like a handicap with 3 alloys and one normal tyre. Note the spare wheel has a different set of screws, beware not to loose them and to check each time when you give it to the service centre.

      Handling charges:

Another thing I have notices and something that I am going to fight is the handling charges collected from me amounting to Rs. 10,000/- which tantamount to contempt to court as the Hon’ble Supreme Courts has in no uncertain way declared that how such thing as handling / logistics charges are to be levied from the customer by an dealer thought out the length and breadth of India. The Verna has handling charges of Rs. 2500/- Fortuner has 6450/-, Terrano cochin dealer 10000/-, Trivandrum dealer Rs. 8000/- . The ex-showroom price is the MRP of the Vehicle and apart from the commissions they get from Nissan they are charging an additional amount as per their wish. Note : Insurance and Road tax was paid by me directly.

      Cutting Costs:

Another way to cut down cost is reduce number of horns. Even wagon R and swifts come with dual horns. Nissan terrano comes with single horn which is not enough to handle indian driving scenarios. No mud flap or floor mat for a premium SUV. They could have provided minimum accessories at least. Rear view mirrors could have been better, even side mirrors could have been improved. What Nissan did with the Terrrano is to rebadged the duster without putting its standards in place, to make a few quick bucks with its brand name. Nissan being the 2nd largest car maker in Japan should have not done it.

      Customer Care:

The worst of its kind which i have come across, they don’t register a complaint via phone unless you insist, after sending a email you need to follow up requesting them to read the mail and relpy to that at least a few times. Even when you buy an Alto we get a 5 star customer care from maruthi, compared to that its not worth investing on a car with such poor customer care.
Now if you are buying a Terrano only if outer looks matter then its okay, if you need customer care and quality then think again.

      Exterior Very good.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) All MUS availed.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox 85/110hps engine same as of duster

      Ride Quality & Handling Awesome.

Final Words I'll be the first to buy in its launch in india

Areas of improvement Space should be improve and instead of 5 a seven seating can be imbedded by excess of the dicky space. Limited storage compartments for the smaller things in life. Although there is plenty of trunk space to hold larger items, there is not a whole lot in terms of where to put the items most likely to get lost while out on the trails.

As a vehicle designed for all terrain driving, four wheel drives should be standard and not simply an option that can be added. Typical off road vehicles are automatically equipped with four wheel drive to maintain the vehicles ability to get where it is going. Color variants should be ample and not limited as found in another suvs so that should ne enriched overall ll be priceworthy service quality of nissan should be improved in india.

      Exterior GOOD.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) DECENT BUT LOW QUALITY PASTICS.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox OK JUST OK.

      Ride Quality & Handling OK.

Final Words CAR MIGHT BE OK BUT NISSAN HAS TO IMPROVE THEIR SERVICE.

Areas of improvement Post test drive we decided to buy the car as my husband was crazy for an SUV. We tried duster too but found Terrano better. Booked the car with a 1.5 lac booking amount. The dealer said the booking amt is 1 lac but give us 1.5 as we will soon deliver the car to you. We trusted & gave the amount. Post speaking to family we upgraded from the base diesel to XL D version mid version. The dealer informed us that they will revert with on the car delivery but will take a months time... We waited patinetly and expected the dealer to call back but got no response, so after 3 weeks we went to the showroom and asked for the delivery date and balance money allotment as its a 13.4 lac car. We even asked him if the car will take another 15 - 20 days to arrive. The reply was clear no, it will be ready before that. My husband sold his old car thinking the new will arrive in the next 10 days. So we waited for a month and again followed up with the dealer who now adds a new story... The car hasnt got manufactured yet... So now a week before we were to get the car within 15 days and a week after the car is not manufactured.... We were thoroughly disappointed and cancelled the booking and wrote an email cancellation. Now its more than a week & we are still not got our booking amount… the dealer keeps on saying he will revert and doesn’t… approached with a complaint on Nissan Terrano facebook page & the team makes a mockery of me by joking on my complaint. Nissan isn’t serious with their buyers such a bad experience on digital is a shame. SHAME ON YOU NISSAN WILL NEVER RETURN TO YOU EVER. OTHER BEWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Exterior The best part of Nisaan Terrano is it's exteriors where I decided to pay 1.23 L extra over a Renault Dustor. Car looks bold & stylish from outside though there is not much difference from DUSTOR.

I truly loved exteriors of the CAR ( not Suv) & Pucrahed Nissan XVD 110 PSI (Top Model) by paying 13 Lacs ... just on looks( Biggest mistake of my life).

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors are  poor & basic finish of the plastic used on wiper control / light control is missing. Touch n feel of the car from inside is of any first level Alto / Eon ( any other 2.5 L worth Car) which you will idenify once you use the car for some time & get familiar with all components.

Dashboard quality is nice  however you may find Renault printed parts inside the car. Stereo quality is poor & assmbling will start making a churning sound when riding on even slightly bumpy roads within 2-3 months.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance is good though the feel is of a JEEP, Mahindra classic, Gear box is not smooth. Within 3 months of purachse my car started giving noise from Brakes, Drums, Doors, & Interior setup / Dashboard.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride Quality is poor due to unconfortable seats & lack of basic 10 Lac plus CAR features  like Audio controls on Steering wheel, Reverse parking video Camera , sensor view( I bought a top model 100 PSI Nissan), Hand brakes are just too average & can't hold your vehicle on a steep. Car ( not a SUV) will make noise from all directions within 2 -3 months even if you are a experienced driver like me ( I drove 3 cars Inlcuding Honda City & Swift each 1 L plus in last 6 years).

I might be the unlucky one however on my trip to agra I saw one error light showing in display panel, which when explained to Nissan they confirmed it to be wiring malfunction.

Final Words A car (not SUV) with excellent exteriors to Stand out in crowd & poor parts & assembling quality. YOu will not find the finish you expect from a Japanese giant like Nisssan. The same car in Australia is amazing & completely different from what they are seliing in India.

Not a sensible buy at all especially in abense of after sales service by Nissan. You keep writing to nissan & would never hear from them at all ( I bet). You will completely on mercy of local dealers where luckily i found one good dealer in Faridabad & ever since able to justify my purchase. Delhi dealers would be truly a pianful experience.

Areas of improvement Assembling quality, Interioir quality & features, One complete Product check before handing over the Car.

Don't give Renault printed parts in the CAR (it's Shameful).

Exterior Much better looking than duster from front and back. Side is about the same and difference is not that noticeable. Alloys are better than duster.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Slightly different than duster. Missing bluetooht and steering controls (available in duster).

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Same as duster. 85ps model will not win any races but ride is quiet and relaxed. Visibility is excellent.  Fuel economy is good in 80-90 range. Above 100kph, needle drops. Best driven upto 100kmph.

Ride Quality & Handling Very balanced ride, soaks bumps. Same as Duster.

Final Words I dont think i would want to pay Rs 50k extra for slightly different styling. Plus duster right now has 60000 for offers also. That is a good Rs100k difference.

AC is the same as in Duster which I felt was weak during Summer (june/july , missing rear ac ). After sales of Nissan is useless and dealer network is questionable. Seems like dealers are not so interested in sales also.

Areas of improvement Price, dealership - sales and service.

Ride quality, quietness, better looking than duster and better named.Price is more than duster and it has lesser equipment for the same trim level (missing bluetooth)

I had booked a Nissan Terrano XL D Black color on 13th Nov'13 at Lakshmi Nissan Hyderabad, and was promised by the dealer to be delivered in 15-20 days. I requested them to deliver on 11th Dec'13 which they failed and did not even bother to communicate the same to me. After multiple calls to the dealer, Nissan customer  care and Mumbai sales office there is no success. The customer care takes the request and never responds back with an answer, and Mumbai sales office does not even entertain calls from customers. Nissan should learn to deal with customers and with such poor customer service before delivering the vehicle, I can imagine their after sales service capability. People who want to buy Nissan Terrano be careful while booking because Nissan has no clue about when they can deliver. It is going the Ford ecosport way and will be failure soon.

NISSAN TERRANO’S MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THE CARELESS, UNPROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER CARE ATTITUDE.

My Terrano had a manufacturing defect due to which it would slow down after couple of seconds of accelerating. The service centre guys took 12 days to get this fixed and I got my car back on 17th September. I was earlier denied a loaner vehicle, then told I would get the same, then told I wouldn’t get it but I could reimburse @ Rs.1200 per day.

      1. It has been 52 days since but I haven’t received my reimbursements inspite of several followups on email / calls.
      2. Inspite of several followups on email, Nissan has failed/refused to reply to my email sent on 22nd September, asking why exactly was the problem occurring and what measures had they taken to fix it.

Nissan Terrano is faulty with a manufacturing defect which Nissan team refuses to talk about. Also, there is nothing like customer care which seems to exist in Nissan.

A more muscle man exterior look than duster with updated and quality interior too. Good road presence road and side view same like Renault Duster.

Engine Perfomance in terms well tuned and mated with realistic gearbox, with excellent fuel ecnomy. Average ride and braking quality in Indian roads. Handling is also not much good.

Nothing is there to compromise moooore. But also keep in mind slight missing is there for its reduced prices of its classes. but if the company stand straight in giving very good customer service hope this vehicle will make a turning point for nissan in India.

Engine too noisy if the bhp is not tuned up to the level, it need to accelarate hardly for more time to get the vehicle  reach targeted speed. excessive sound and poor cabin noise insulation makes irritation passangers. it will be good if it is rectified.

Affordable and engine quality proven suv remoulded with more luxurious features in a reliable brandservice & spares make sleepless night

      Exterior

      1. Styling is adequate.

      2. Rubber weather strip running along the roof and pillars hold dust and falls inside, while opening the door. Keeping car free of dust challenging.

      3. Portion between the Front Hood, below the wipers not covered with Plastic.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

      1. Front Seat Position not very comfortable. Heat adjust not adequate. View of the sppedometer has narrow window.

      2. Centre console (between two front seat, very difficult to clean).

      3. Steering combination switch suited for LHD (left hand drive). Very comfortable. CMVR should have some provision to stop LHD desing usage on RHD. Very uncomfortable to turn on indicator in city driving when left hand is on the Gear Shift.

      4. Stereo and Speaker a nightmare, for this class of vehicle.

      5. Fuel lid opener, below driver seat, not placed properly. Broken in two months time. Spare not avaliable for last 3 weeks.

      6. Air-conditioning (A/C) refrigerant flow noise audible when A/C is switched on.

      7. Rear Boot: Very Good w.r.t Size and Layout. No plstic cover over the rear lower Garnish. Prone to Scratches and Paint removal while keeping luggage.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

      1. Engine smooth and responsive.

      2. Big gap between 1st and 2nd Gear. Flat spot in 2nd Gear low speed. no response at times for a good throw of throttle. May be done to control smoke.

      3. Fuel Economy - Satisfied.

      4. Gear box- Satisfied.

      Ride Quality & Handling

      1. Satisfied with Ride Quality and Comfort.

      2. Some felt uncomfortable with breaking distance.

      3. Long Driving - very good experience. City Driving with A/C on in Delhi in Peak Traffic - Painful.

Final Words Over-all Vehicle is Good, but not Value for money.

      Areas of improvement

      1. Driver Seat Position.

      2. A/C Effectiveness.

      3. 1 & 2nd Gear ratio spacing and low rpm Torque.

      4. Rubber weather strip between door and body on top tends to hold dust. when door opened dust falls inside the cabin.

      5. Audio system - a big no no. Too primative. Heavy cost saving. Have atleast good speakers and Digital Display Music system.

      6. Horn Quality ???? Very bad. Heavy cost saving.

      7. Dealership awarenes pathetic. They have drilled new holes to fit Vehicle registration plate. this is simply criminal.

Satisfied with Ride Handling, Drive Comfort and Fuel Economy.Seating position? Takes a while to Adjust. Tilt Steering throw inadequate. 2nd Gear flat spot.

The car has been put on diplay in Delhi yesterday but test drive is not yet available. Hence, the review is based on the looks only assuming that power, driving comfort and other mechanical features are same as those of Duster. Exteriors look better than Duster. Interiors are more or less same as thaose of Duster. Space and cpmfort are same. Seat covers are ordinary. Rear vent of AC is fitted in a crude manner and causes obstruction in seating of third passenger. Could have provided some more space for smaller items like bottle holder and a mobile stand etc. Ford has done it very well in Ecosport. Music system is ordinary, they could have given touch screen. I heard Renault has started a touch screen music system with in built GPS in Duster.

Test drive is not yet availabe. It has been put on display yesterday only but power and performance are already known since engine, chassis and txn etc are same as those of Duster. AS compared to Duster it does not deserve a price rise.

Looks from front, good fuel economy, good power (Assuming they are same as of Duster)Interior plastic quality, Rear AC vents fitted in a crude manner. Over priced.
